    Thanks for your kind words.

I prefer to stay in budget accommodation like guest houses or family-run hostel/hotel/inn, which is the low end.
I usually pay between 10-20USD a night for such places. For this price, you can get a decent room with a private shower and usually wifi and sometimes cable TV, which is value for money.

Fuel cost is between 4-5USD per gallon, depending on countries.

Yes it is generally safe to move around with your camera in Southeast Asia, but of course the usual precaution still applies especially in the more touristy locations as petty thieves usually target crowded places full of tourists.

Don't bother about camping. Plenty of cheap accommodation everywhere even in the most remote highlands.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

    Great trip!
Really admire your courage to do it all by yourself. Very nice pics too.
I don't know if I ever have what it takes to do it.
Just wondering how did you manage the $$ sides of things, it's definitely not too safe carrying large amounts of cash around and with so many borders crossing and different currencies, and also I guess credit cards are not widely accepted. What's your recommendation for that?
Also, what kind of bike do you think should be a minimum when planning for such trips comfortably? Capacity?

    Cheers:clap

Your photos are amazing. I love to read RR's with local food in them and this one is top class. And kind of makes me hungry right now. A great adventure.

    Safe Riding.

    Hey Daniel,

Great ride report! Loved the images -- you provided a great flavor for the countries you visited.

My fiance and I are planning a year-long trip in Asia starting this October, which will include Malaysia. Would love to get some advice on places to go and stay, and would love to meet up if that becomes an option!

You can check out our planned route here: http://www.coyoteandsaint.com/asia/

I work professionally with NGOs here in America, so I'm planning on volunteer time with orgs in Asia while we travel. If you know of any nonprofits who need help, let me know!

PM me if you're open to Skyping in the next month or two!

Just found this report today, Fantastic even recognised a few places in your pictures. I'm interested that you got the large bike into Vietnam and I'll have to agree with you beer Lao, very drinkable but so is Anchor, Tiger and Saigon green:D and Lok lak is very nice but can vary quite a lot from place to place.
I'll have to look into shipping my bike to Singapore and doing something similar.
