Jut saw the bike in its way to the first shake down....it looks amazing!
BC61 and I rode close to 100 miles today; a good shakedown for the DAKAR bike. Man, he was looking good on that bike. The bike performed flawlessly and is a seriously well thought out performance machine ... certainly appears to be up to the job!
I was on the HP2 and had a total ball! I've never jumped that bike like I did today; what a blast!
I hope Bill can post the pics and vids I took today ...
GO BC61 !!!!
... p.s., thanks for the chow Sweets, I really needed it!!!
Go Bill Go!
2 things I learned in Australia:
1. Rim locks and mousse...not needed. We dumped the rim locks after the first day. We pulled the mousse out of the tires and relubed them every night and one mousse lasted 3 or so days until something sliced it up inside the tire.
2. I didn't see whether you had a mechanic or not but having a mechanic is key. I did some of my own work in Australia but shared a mechanic with another rider and that was about the best thing to have was someone else to deal with the bike. It was nice in Australia but could be critical in Dakar.
Which one of these kids is not like the other?
I think I found the real reason that Bill is doing the Dakar:
I have a rim lock on the rear only because it was suggested for longevity of the mousse. I'll let the tire service decide if they want to mess with them.
Myself and Ned along with Jonah are teamed up with Rally Pan Am. Tim Morton of Baja Bound will be the mechanic for Ned and I. I originally thought I'd want to wrench on the bike or at least help with the maintenance but after all the work I've done on this thing and the number of times I've taken it apart and put it back together I really hope I don't have to touch it at all during the rally.
I guess a thirty second pit stop for a hug and a squeeze really won't cost to much time in the scheme of things...
I bet I know somebody who doesn't think so much of the stop and squeeze plan.
Now that's a way point!!!
