Ill add to this that while it may be nice if your wife rides, it is most important if she is supportive. I have had plenty of GFs who like to ride, but while my wife doesn't ride she gets that I need to ride. She is more supportive of my ventures than she probably should be, even if she calls my bike "that death machine in the garage".

and sorry FY, but my wife is hotter than yours... IMHO anyway :evil

I took many a road trip during my college years. The schedule was conducive, the company was willing, and the budget... well the budget was shoestring, but that was half the fun.

With regard to facing the "big" decisions: no one knows what the future holds, and as a consequence, the only thing to do is make the best decision one can at the time. The emphasis is important. Time and trial can cause one to look back on decisions and know a certain choice could have been better made. But it's unfair (and a path to nowhere) to hold oneself responsible for lacking the wisdom gained from that very choice.

You seem smart and independent. When the time comes, do what seems right to you. Odds are, it will be. If not, change it!

P.S. Please understand that for men of a certain age, who represent a large portion of ADVers, it's impossible to resist bestowing "wisdom" upon 18 year olds! It's probably more a reflection of us than you. I get the feeling you will do fine.

HEY, stop talking about me, I don't like that!

Seriously though... my "advice" usually sounds like this:

I probably can't tell you exactly what you should do.
BUT I can tell you things you should not do... a lot of stuff I did. :shog

    Rafael,
We met you at a Dairy Queen in Indiana. 2 couples riding to Pittsburgh. You had a bent chain adjuster. I was blown away by your story especially when you told me your age! That August I told my students about you and the value of a dream and putting it forth.
I hope all is well with you.
    Well done!

    Hey Alex!

Everything is fine here, just getting ready to move on out to the Bay Area, I decided on UC Berkeley. Thanks again for the advice you gave me back then. I guess that adventure will haunt me for life, but that's a good thing!

Hope you and your students have a wonderful rest of the year.

Welcome to the bay area ! You will love it here

I enjoyed your ride report and your story. I never read ride reports unless they are loaded with pictures but your writing was so good it kept me interested.

Looking forward to your next adventure.
