OK... I've always wanted to ride across the U.S. coast to coast. Since I had just ridden out Route 66 from Santa Monica CA to Chicago IL, I decided to finish the job. :D

Here’s a link to my Route 66 RR and I’ll write up the rest of the trip here.

Left Minnesota after an extended visit with family including a awesome camping/fishing/canoeing trip to the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area. Next up was ride out to Pennsylvania to a visit with another old army buddy that I hadn't seen in 30+ years. Its funny how our voices don't seem to have changed at all but our appearances sure have. Here's a couple pics of my buddy Frank in 1978 and 2010. See if you can guess which one is which :lol3 Sorry, I know its a bit off the motorcycle topic but I couldn't resist... doesn't he look like Super Mario now :huh :nod

Ok... back to business. Here are some pics I got going thru Ohio. I took a wrong turn and ended up going 10 miles out of my way but I did end up with this shot for my troubles :lol3

Here's a video of some scenic farms. Just missed getting some really cool footage of me passing a horse and wagon, due again to my lack of experience with the helmet cam... Im slowly getting use to it but its been an agonizing process.

Sometimes I would get a little bored and play with the GPS options for "Shorter Distance" or "Faster Time" to see if I could find some unpaved roads.<object height="505" width="640">

Williamsport PA is home to the Little League World Series and this is the stadium where they play for all the marbles.

I&#8217;ve heard it said that the adventure doesn&#8217;t begin until something goes wrong. Did I mention that I had strapped a canister of bear spray to my handlebars? I carried bear spray on my Alaska ride and decided to do the same for this one as I would be camping out most of the time. But this time I chose to strap it to the handlebars where I could reach it while riding. Well I didn&#8217;t have any problems with bears but I did have quite an exciting time with the bear spray. Let me just say this: the adventure has officially begun. :eek1

I was on my way thru a small town and going rather slow when I noticed an oily looking substance dripping all over my right pant leg. When I realized what it was, I immediately pulled over and proceeded to carefully remove the canister from my bike while trying not to breath the fumes from the liquid pepper spray. This would prove to be a real pain that could not be easily fixed. As I rode on, the fumes were coming off of my clothing and the bike, causing my eyes to burn and water.:cry I found a car wash and proceeded to rinse the nasty substance off my bike and clothing. Problem is that the mist from the spaying water mixed with the liquid pepper spray creating a large pepper cloud in the car wash bay. Its been nearly two weeks now - several bike, cloths and gear washes, and several storms later and I still get periodic whiffs of bear spray.

When I left PA, I headed for Niagara Falls. Here's a pic of the horseshoe falls from the Canadian side.

    And here's a short video of both falls<object height="505" width="640">

I knew that I would cross The Appalachian Trail somewhere along the my way thru Vermont. After asking around a bit I found the spot where it crossed and when I got there a group of hikers were relaxing in the parking lot. They had started in Georgia and been on the trail about 4 months. :clap I was fortunate to catch them here... It's kind of ironic that we would meet - me traveling across the country from west to east and them traveling across the country from south to north.
