And we intend to head west from Birdsville, then home after either doing a U, or left, or right turn somewhere near Dalhousie Springs or Mt Dare. 1500 km range in ute gives us options.

I spent Friday arvo servicing the bike, oil, filter, air filter, new front sprocket, grease the linkages, inflate the tyres, etc.
I then took a nice ride on Saturday down to the Bega Valley, in company with a mate, Sean (the smelly one).
It took us around 5 hours all up riding time, and a 40 min stop in Cooma at the kebab shop, which has fantastic kebabs and good coffe from the nice Turkish man.
On that note, the cafe over the road on the corner of the roundabout has changed hands some time ago, new owners, everything hugely expensive, and utterly crap service. It's such a shame to see a proper old-style cafe turn to shit, they are few and far between these days. You've been warned.
We took a leisurely backroads ride home today too, stopping in Nimmittabel for brekky where we had a rather large and yummy bacon and egg roll and a decent coffee over the road from the bakery (which was packed, btw). At the bakery were 4 dirt bikers from Canberra, I dunno if they are inmates but they looked troublesome enough to be in here. They were also heading up Kybeyan to go to Wadbilliga, whereas we continued through Countegany and over Polly's Gully, then the regular dirt roads home.
All the dirt roads and trails were in good nick (lack of rain?) but the Tinderry road was a tad rough, prolly from the volume of traffic. We met maybe half a dozen fuckwits in fourbies but that seems to be how it is, they are entitled to not look, or speed like lunatics on loose dirt. Or simply block the whole f*cking road.
It was 2 days of relaxed dirt roads and trails, most enjoyable. I hope the other Canberra riders we met at Nimmittabel had a good result too. :D

Plenty of places around like that!, Micalong Creek isn't too bad but get up further like Three Mile Dam, etc
Seen photos of snow coming out of the 'Trout' rally back a few years ago, & up in the Brindabellas is always good fun too! :eek1
I reckon Tuena in July is my favourite, -8c last year, then you know cold :clap
