Looks like Sam gave up 56 seconds to Coma today. With current standings, he'll start at least two spots behind Coma tomorrow while still retaining the overall lead 01:09.

Taddy is approaching the finish line. Should be there in just a few minutes.

Rodriguez is due at any moment. It will be interesting to see how he splits the top runners.

No split - slipped in right behind Sam.

Rodrigues gives in at sixth for the stage. Doesn't look like anyone else will get between Coma And Sam.

Camps is his mother's name. The formal Catalan custom would be Marc Coma i Camps.

Chavo is still searching for top end speed. I compared the three fastest data points between Chavo, Goncalves, and Coma. On the eastern edge, Chavo was right with them at 111 kph while Goncalves was 110 and Coma was 113 but on the run from Al Janai to Himeem, Juan Carlos topped at 108 while Goncalves and Coma had nearly 20kph on him at 125 and 128 kph respectively.

Leaving Himeem near Mousel, Chavo was up a little at 116kph but Goncalves and Coma were still quickest at 122 and 125kph.

Chavo is on a 499cc while Coma and Goncalves are (supposedly) 50cc down on him. Makes one wonder how much power the full factory efforts are able to wring out of such a small capacity.

Great quote from Don @ CPW (when he was talking to the Austrian guys that built his KTM 450RR engine).

Austrian guy said something like: 'Hows the engine doing'?
Don:'We seem to be down a couple of K's in topspeed'
Austrian guy: 'Are you sure your rider is giving it full throttle?'

Turns out that the exact same engines were used by CD and MC.. When used by factory riders, they had a topspeed that was a little higher...

Read into it what you think, 9 out 10 times it is all in the wrist...

Press comments from today -

12. Pal Anders Ullevalseter (NOR)

“It was a difficult day as I had to open the tracks and so I had to go slowly. It’s always easier for the following pack who always expect to catch up with the leader.”

Leader? - what was he smoking, he started 4th, or perhaps he was just taking a differant route?:lol3:lol3

Well tomorrow the tow rope will be the other way, also as Pal Anders sloted in between Goncalves, Coma and then Sam, he will gain 2 and 3 minutes on them respectivley if he catches them - which he hopefully should :clap:clap

The official write ups are not being that respectful of Sam yet - of course he came under pressure today as he led out, but he did enough on day 1 to have a controlled lead which he should keep!!:clap:clap:clap
