I've stayed at Fontana Dam Resort a couple of times, but it ain't cheap.

I wanna try this place sometime, it's 10 miles east of Fontana Dam:

I hate to tell you this but in a day and a half you only have time to check out a fraction of the riding in the area. I've been riding the area for over 20 years and still have a lot to ride for the first time.

Kickstand lodge is a campground. I stayed there once. It's a nice campground with a good bathouse but not a lot else. I think they have a cabin or two. If you want more amenities (Lodge, big screen TV, etc) check out Ironhorse which is only a few miles from the kickstand lodge. I have stopped by there but never stayed there: http://www.ironhorsenc.com/

Deal's Gap resort also has camping. I have stayed there a couple of times and although it's a madhouse during the day, it does quiet down at night.

I stayed at Kickstand Lodge last month for a few days. They have several cabins. It's a great place for budget-minded campers. They have good shower facilities and provide clean towels at no charge. I'll go back.

Oh I have no doubts. Looks like an amazing area. Trying to narrow it down to a few select routes with some scenic stops.

What was the name of the trail that came out behind a guard rail on Cherohala?
Amy flipped the bird to me on that trail.:lol3

We call it the "434 powerline trail".

Sometimes if I'm in a bad mood I send guys "up" the trail :evil

I've seen my fair share of bent / broke gearshift and brake/clutch levers there

I'm hoping I get to run it in about two weeks :clap

Aside from the 1 rocky hill it was a lovely trail. I rode Amy's bike down it just to make sure she would be able to shift and brake for the entire weekend.

Going down 434 is not too bad, going up can be, back during March moto madness i went up and down it several times on my DR650, no problem, 3 weeks later i went up and it was rough, we had allot of rain, seemed as if the rock was sticking up more due to erosion from the rain.
The left hand track going up the rocks has always been the best line, aside from the one rocky spot, the trail is a nice one, i have seen plenty of carnage in that rocky spot, including a KLR hanging off the edge of the right hand rocky side, we managed to get it out, via downhill, it took 4 of us to wrestle the bike downhill, the guy rode the bike the rest of the weekend.

    Thanks for sharing Mike!!:clap

I suspected while we were on FS81 that there must be a FS81 and also a trail 81.
Added to the list for the next trip down. Got a few other ADV members kicking around the idea of an early September trip.
I'm pushing for fall when the leaves are peaking. Mid to late October??
