Nice looking one. Peanut valve covers and it looks like a rear shock upgrade in the pic.

Jenna, you make it sound like something bad is beyond that covered bridge. :D

Just BOXERWORKS :1drink. His rear wheel had play, big FD bearing possibly.....it was recommended not to ride to mitigate further damage. He's 80 or so miles from home here....

:augieOh, OK. I didn't think about where/what he was close to even though my usual route goes by there.

'83 ST, committed to purchase sight unseen via 'net.
Using escrow.com (<$200); they hold my payment, send me PDFs of received title & estate paperwork, I accept docs & release payment, and then go pick machine up, twelve hours away.
    So damn excited.
Pics show it has a four-bolt cast wheel.
What-sa spoke rear wheel gonna cost me?

After bike's at my place, OK to ask about machine (PO's recently dead) here?

They are great bikes. The hard part for the rear wheel is finding a three hole hub, NLA from BMW - at least I can't seem to find one.

Regarding the hub...there are usually a few available on ebay in Germany and the UK, I see them frequently.

I am in need of some new tires on the ST. I loved the Trailwings on my DR650 for the road and some gravel and they make a 120/90-18 tire that will fit but do you guys think its to narrow and tall for the ST? I really don't like the vintage tires that everybody suggests on the moto parts websites. I think Its recommended to have a 130/80-18 not a big change but I would like to here the opinion of more expierenced ST riders?

    '83 R80ST, just acquired.

Four-bolt, 33/11 rear drive, R65 front end & fender, red-black sidecovers, white tank, white rear fender; trove of spares PO was accumulating toward mods.
Started & rode it around the block this weekend, seems good.
Looking forward to going thru it & putting it on the road.

The best all around tires I've run on the ST have been Distanzias. Right at 10K miles on both front and rear. Very good on mountain twisties or the slab; wet or dry. Surprisingly good on dirt and gravel roads. Currently have Conti Classic Attacks mounted and like them, but the rear appears to be wearing fairly fast.

For comparison, my F650 Funduro has always run TKC 80s and Metzeler Tourances. Likewise lots of road trips and offroading. On this bike I usually aired down to 21 psi for challenging offroad then air back up for pavement (always carry a 12V compressor and gauge).

120/90-18 is the stock tire size for the ST. I've used Metzler, Bridgestone S11 Spitfire, and currently Bridgestone BT45 Battlax. With all those tires I get about 10K on the rear and 14-15K in front. All in 120/90-18. I ride pavement and gravel mostly, off road rarely. I don't know if the Trailwings fit differently, but I would order the stock size. I'm thinking about ordering some Michelin Pilot Activ tires for myself.
