Go back in this thread there's a bunch of hotel info from last year. GPS waypoints also in other GPS thread. Have a look around.

Good info, thanks! My buddy and I are probably not going to ride Medellin to Cartagena in one shot. We are considering stopping at either Caucasia or Planeta Rica. Anyone have any details on these towns?

    Thanks!
    Bert

Caucasia's a bit dodgy but there's one hotel about 5K north, bright blue, on the right hand side of the road, Hotel Meson. Expensive, but it's there if you need it.

I spent the night in Caucasia in a hotel located in a corner of the main avenue (carrera 20), I don´t remember the name exactly but it has something with chinese dragons. it´s right in the corner where another avenue intersects Carrera 20 and that other avenue is full of bars and food restaurants.

    Hope it helps

Just looked at a map, and saw Hotel Casa Samaurai. Does that sound like your place? Was it fairly clean?

    Thanks

    Hola.

So far we can't find any bike rentals. Martin is gone on a 7 day tour. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

No man, nor me or my friend remember the name, but I can tell you that is a hotel placed in a second floor. The entrance is right in the corner and there´s an ATM very near. In the first floor there was nothing when I was there, this was where I parked my bike.

    Good luck

Looks like I'm gonna be spending the night in Cartagena tomorrow night. I've read about the old city, but are there any suggestions from the inmates on what to do while there for a short bit?

We just got back from Cartagena last night.

If there's time, book a city tour for about $65 US. Walk the old city at night and enjoy the sights (watch out for the charcoal black guy that likes to hide and yell "Boo!"). We did a carriage ride at night for $30 but the guide didn't speak english. Depends what you want to do. We were there for a week and loved it. Lots of peddlars but we never once felt unsafe. Just agree on a cab fare before getting in. What started out as $25 for a ride always ended up at $6.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm here now and it's quite hazy, hopefully it clears up tomorrow.

Can anyone provide information about security/safety in Cucuta? I'm contemplating taking a job there for two months and wondering what it's like now.

The Shamrock in Medellin is my go-to place. If they don't have a room, they have a suggestion for one.. Al and Al are superstars with good bike repair advice, connections and will send you exactly where you need to go. No drama. AND it's very close to motorcycle repair row.. there is a whole street or four full of moto shops and services.
Huge props to my buddies there.. every time, a super success.
    Thanks guys!
