It went surprisingly smooth, one more piece of paper and the Jiquilillo property is officially ours! :deal It's going to be a great spot for weary ADV'ers.

I enjoyed those 2 Victoria litros. :freaky Gracias!

I arrived in Nicaragua yesterday! I'm currently in Somoto, riding down to Matagalpa tomorrow. No real plans yet other than making my way over to Leon to stay in bike-nicaragua's place - but I would love to meet up with some other travelers along the way.

I'm also eyeballing riding out to the Pearl Lagoon (if the roads aren't too thrashed due to rain. My V-Strom isn't the most glorious offroad mud machine sadly).

moderndaydrifter, I will have to figure out where your hotel is and come down for a visit as well!

    Cheers!

I too am down here. Got my wr450 up and going. Was thinking of gps marking out some trails and creating a database that we all could share from. I heard Leon has some good ones as well.

We're doing the double border crossing from El Salvador early tomorrow morning and are hoping to make it to Leon by late afternoon to stay for a few days. Planning to check out this great beach everyone is referring to....:evil

you cannot "run" the canal route since most of it runs through private land, the lake etc etc.

    Hi Jurgen,

I am currently on my way to Ushuaia but had a crash and now I'm in need of a rear wheel assembly for a ktm 690 in Leon. I am currently staying in a hostel but if you have a spare room then it sounds a lot better option for me.

Please let me know if you have anything available.

This is also an open ended invitation as if anybody knows anyone that can help or is available then I'm open for suggestions.

William, there is a ktm dealer in managua, though i doubt very much they will have your parts in stock, as most dealers here o not stock very much at all.

i may be able to help you though, so PM me.

    Hola ADV Nicaraguans.

Just crossed into Nic yesterday and will be here two weeks or so before moving on to Costa Rica. I'm in Leon now, and currently have on my list of places to go: Granada, beaches near San Juan del Sur, Isla de Ometepe. I'm also interested in seeing Rio San Juan, but getting there may be too many days to circle back around. I'm spending my afternoon looking into specific places and activities.

But I have to ask: anything in particular that the locals recommend?

so it appears as though you've planned for a pacific coast tour of the country. mistake. you will be missing some of the most beautiful country by avoiding the northern-central highlands around matagalpa and esteli. as well as some beautiful caribbean destinations.

don't take it personally, but i find it amazing how most folks blow through nica thinking that granada, sjds and ometepe are all there are to see here. sad.

i'll be down on the 25th. if you need anything for the bike (within reason) send me a pm.

Thanks. The lake kinda forces your hand in route planning, but I haven't ruled out matagalpa etc yet, so there may be redemption. Hence why I posted here.

Thanks for the bike part offer. Fortunately, the ol' girl has been running fine up til now. Well, not completely---I've gotten my fair share of pinchazos so far.

Other than matagalpa /esteli, anywhere in particular you really like?

invest in super duty tubes. hard to work with but very unlikely you'll get a flat. i've had a set in my Nica DR for 3 years with no flats. i can sell you a set if you're interested.

pacific side is fairly boring. flat no curves. you can ride the beach itself from pochomil to la boquita for a change in scenery, about 15 miles. when you head to sjds, take la chocolata-- an unpaved road that runs mostly parallel to the panamericana.
