Pertaining to Wednesday Night's New Business discussion of the NYC IMS at the Javits Center, I think I found where we should go for dinner that night....

The Pattenburg House was jammed as usual and parking was at a premium, but we managed to secure space here and there between the local vehicles. The Firehouse across the street was active so I assume that there was some overflow into our lot. There was no available seating at the bar so we opted for a table in the back as far away from the entertainment as we could get. Melissa kept us nourished for the duration and Amy(our waitress from the last visit) came over to say hello at the end of the meeting. Nice place, just a little noisy when full and the entertainment is performing. We kept abreast of the events of the Yankee/Houston game via the tube.

The meeting opened at 8:27 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports. All is well.

    A quorum was available.

History: On this day (October 18th)

1648: The “shoemakers of Boston”–the first labor organization in what would become the United States–is authorized by the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

1767: The Mason-Dixon Line survey was completed.

1867: US takes formal possession of Alaska from Russia having paid $7.2 million.

    1898: Puerto Rico becomes a U.S. Territory.

Trivia: This is 291st day of the year with 74 days to go.

    1926: Chuck Berry is born.

    1936: Thomas Alva Edison died.

Just a little local trivia for those interested regarding Bellewood Park which was right down the street from the restaurant:

The venue had already been chosen for next week by ballot. It will be revealed on Sunday evening as always.

There being no further business to come before the crew, the meeting was adjourned at 9:47 pm.

Our return to Philberts presented no surprises on Wednesday as it is still the cleanest venue we have ever visited. It was a mature hometown crowd at the slab with the beer chilled at 38 degrees. The menu was even more limited than last time and was down to pizza or nachos unless you wanted to survive with just shelled peanuts. The game 2 of the World Series kept the local patrons busy and we were able to conduct business without an interruption. The owner remembered us from our last appearance and welcomed us back. Unfortunately, Ms. Heather had moved on to greener pastures and was not available.

The meeting opened at 8:14 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports. All is well.

A quorum was not in attendance.

History: On this day (October 25th)

1760: George III started his reign as the King of Great Britain and Ireland.

1854: The infamous Charge of Light Brigade during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War; over 100 killed.

Trivia: This is 298th day of the year with 67 days to go.

    1912: Minnie Pearl was born.

1938: The Archbishop of Dubuque, Francis J. L. Beckman, denounces Swing music as "a degenerated musical system... turned loose to gnaw away at the moral fiber of young people", warning that it leads down a "primrose path to hell".

    1983 Invasion of Grenada
A U.S. led invasion called Operation Urgent Fury was triggered by a coup that ended with the murder of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. The invasion ended with U.S. victory.

New Business: The IMS in New York was brought up for discussion. Nothing was decided upon as further debate is necessary regarding what day, ticket purchase, and mode of transportation. This will tabled until the next meeting as more input is needed. Update: one of the crew has a His/Hers Dental Appointment scheduled for Saturday, 12/2. That individual will find a way to adjust such a conflict to meet the needs of the group.

A suggestion to extend invitations to spouses and SO's was brought up. The opinion was that they are welcome anytime without going to the extent of a special night.

An issue surfaced regarding a picture from our last outing and the identification of Ms. Amy as our waitress from our first visit to the Pattenburg House. A CSI Forensics Team was quickly assembled from those present to follow the trail. After careful examination of all photographs under heavy magnification and the testimony of those present last week as well as the one closest to the action, it was determined to be one in the same person. The evidence was found to be exculpatory.

The venue had already been chosen for next week by ballot(the last one from the previous season). It will be revealed on Sunday evening as always.

There being no further business to come before the crew, the meeting was adjourned at 9:41 pm.

Wednesday evening was certainly mild to say the least and the expected precipitation blew through the town of Washington leaving just a little dampness here and there on the tarmac. Miss Jayme was not working that night and the tavern was far from busy. As always there were a few entertaining characters at the slab, but no chinchillas were available like last time. Hey the beer was cold and the food was decent. BTW, they will be serving a Sunday Brunch starting this weekend from 11-3. Game 7 of the "Fall Classic" was enjoyed despite not being much of a game for the Dodger Fans.

The meeting opened at 8:16 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports. All is well (I guess).

    A quorum was not available.

History: On this day (November 1st)

1478: The Spanish Inquisition was established.

Trivia: This is 305th day of the year with 60 days to go.

1952 "Ivy Mike", the first thermonuclear weapon to utilize the H-bomb design of Edward Teller and Stanislaw Ulam, is detonated in the Marshall Islands, Pacific Ocean.

1967: The movie Cool Hand Luke is released staring Paul Newman. (How do you like your eggs?)

Old Business: Other offerings were discussed and noted regarding new locations for our weekly outing.

New Business: With the expected demise of the Chatterbox Bike Night within a year, a discussion ensued regarding the future of our weekly outing. A point was brought forth that we should think of having a selected night at the same location rather than a traveling theme. A couple of sites were discussed, but without a quorum and more thought, it was tabled to the next meeting.

No new information regarding the IMS was available.

A new venue was chosen for next week. It will be revealed on Sunday evening as always.

There being no further business to come before the crew, the meeting was adjourned at 9:49 pm.

Well it was certainly a rainy evening as predicted on Election Day. Blackstones was not crowded as it was last year and plenty of seating was available at the bar. There was very little discussion regarding the Gubernatorial Election which was in concert with the low voter turnout recorded the next day.

Sharon(pictured) attended to our needs, but no Miller Highlife was available(boo/hiss). The menu was the same as last time with a couple of specials on the board. No one went home hungry.

The meeting opened at 7:46 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports. All is well.

    A quorum was not available.

History: On this day (November 7th)

1776: Congress chooses Richard Bache to succeed his father-in-law, Benjamin Franklin, as postmaster general. Franklin had sailed for France on behalf of the Continental Congress the previous month. Benjamin Franklin invested nearly 40 years in the establishment of a reliable system of private communications in the American colonies. He was appointed postmaster of Philadelphia in 1737 and then as joint postmaster general of the colonies, a position he held from 1753 to 1774, when he was fired for opening and publishing Massachusetts Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson’s correspondence. While postmaster, Franklin streamlined postal delivery with properly surveyed and marked routes from Maine to Florida (this route later became Route 1), instituted overnight postal travel between the critical cities of New York and Philadelphia and created a standardized rate chart based upon weight and distance.

1940: The Tacoma Barrows Bridge collapses spanning Puget Sound.

1944: FDR defeats Republican Thomas Dewey to win an unprecedented fourth term.

Trivia: This is 312th day of the year with 53 days to go.

1980 Steve McQueen dies at age 50 while undergoing cancer treatment in Mexico.

1991: Magic Johnson announces that he is HIV positive.

2000 Controversial US presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore which is eventually resolved in Bush's favor by the Supreme Court

We never thought that the bowling alley in Washington would have that good a cuisine, but we were wrong. The wings were far from nuclear, but the burgers were cheap and tasty along with the frosted mugs for your favorite suds. Alas, no Miller HighLife was served, so we made do with the other offerings. The restaurant was empty with plenty of seating at the slab. There were quite a few young debutantes waiting tables, but none were working the bar. The place is a great deal larger than it looks from the outside, but separate from the noise of the alleys.

The meeting opened at 8:31 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports. All is well.

A couple of our group made it to Eagles Lodge on Sunday and were validated by photograph on the Polar Bear site.

Old Business: The IMS was again discussed. Looks like Saturday is the day and the "Grocery Getter" van will be able to haul your ass over to the Big Apple.

New Business: Other offerings were discussed and noted regarding new locations for our weekly outing.

A proposal was brought forth regarding leasing space for a "Motor Den of Iniquity". Innovative suggestions followed with some amusing thoughts which prompted more information to be available for the next meeting. A potential site has been spotted. More to follow.

A new venue was chosen for next week. It will be revealed on Sunday evening as always.

There being no further business to come before the crew, the meeting was adjourned @ 9:21 pm.
