On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to savor the other Enzo's in Hackettstown. There was no room at the bar, so we opted for a table in the front room. The menu was complete with just about any dish or combination of Italian cuisine you could imagine and Tuesday night was pasta night with entrees marked down by $2.00. The waitress was attentive and the price reasonable.

The meeting opened at 8:22 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports.

    A quorum was not available.

    and speaking of the Mongols:

"Man’s greatest good fortune is to chase and defeat his enemy, seize his total possessions, leave his married women weeping and wailing, ride his gelding [and] use the bodies of his women as a nightshirt and support."

    Genghis Khan

Between 1206 and his death in 1227, the Mongol leader Genghis Khan conquered nearly 12 million square miles of territory—more than any individual in history. Along the way, he cut a ruthless path through Asia and Europe that left untold millions dead, but he also modernized Mongolian culture, embraced religious freedom and helped open contact between East and West. A great ruler who was equal parts military genius, political statesman and bloodthirsty terrorist.

The return to the Claremont Tavern in Bernardsville was enjoyable due to the weather and the company. A few of us took a chance on their signature onion rings and were not disappointed. Pizza , burgers , and wings rounded out the the meal. The bar area was small and cozy , but filled with locals so we opted for the corner table. Tuesday evening was billed as 'Trivia Night', but we missed it.

An interesting discussion was started regarding "How I met my wife, significant other, ex, etc." in concert with the previous week encompassing Valentine's Day not to mention how it was celebrated. Gun Control , Apple vs. PC, and Politics sparked some fire and spirited debate.

The meeting opened at 8:03 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports.

    A quorum was available.

The Salt GastroPub was fairly busy that evening, so we had to settle for a table for the seven in attendance. Three riders ventured out that night and I was jealous in that I have yet to be on two wheels this year(too much ice on the driveway). The burgers were outstanding and favorable with an interesting beer selection. PBR was on tap for $2.00(memories are made of this beverage). Entertainment was a little loud in the main dining area and the original Planet of the Apes(1968) was playing on the screen. Just a little background for those of us who don't recall the film:

Charlton Heston played 20th-century American astronaut George Taylor, who travels to a strange planet where intelligent apes dominate mute, primitive humans. Kim Hunter and Roddy McDowall played the sympathetic chimpanzees Zira and Cornelius, and Linda Harrison portrayed Taylor's love interest Nova. Maurice Evans played the villain, orangutan science minister Dr. Zaius. The finale, in which Taylor comes upon a ruined Statue of Liberty and realizes he has been on Earth all along, became the series' defining scene and one of the most iconic images in 1960s film. Planet of the Apes has received particular attention among film critics for its treatment of racial issues. Cinema and cultural analysts have also explored its Cold War and animal rights themes. The series has influenced subsequent films, media, and art, as well as popular culture and political discourse.

The meeting opened at 8:22 pm with Roll Call and Committee Reports.

    A quorum was available.

History: On this day (February 28th).

1827 - The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad became the first railroad incorporated for commercial transportation of people and freight.

1885 - AT&T (American Telephone and Telegraph) was incorporated. The company was capitalized on only $100,000 and provided long distance service for American Bell.

1953 - Cambridge University scientists James D. Watson and Francis H.C. Crick announce that they have determined the double-helix structure of DNA, the molecule containing human genes.

Though DNA–short for deoxyribonucleic acid–was discovered in 1869, its crucial role in determining genetic inheritance wasn’t demonstrated until 1943. In the early 1950s, Watson and Crick were only two of many scientists working on figuring out the structure of DNA.

1993 - Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms raid the Branch Davidian cult compound in Waco, Texas, prompting a gun battle in which four agents and six cult members are killed. The federal agents were attempting to arrest the leader of the Branch Davidians, David Koresh, on information that the religious sect was stockpiling weapons. A nearly two-month standoff ensued after the unsuccessful raid.

Trivia: This is 59th day of the year with 306 days to go.

1968 - Frankie Lymon died of a heroin overdose.

1979 - Mr. Ed, the talking horse from the TV show "Mr. Ed", died.

1983 - "M*A*S*H" became the most watched television program in history when the final episode aired.

1991 - The Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991), codenamed Operation Desert Shield (2 August 1990 – 17 January 1991) for operations leading to the buildup of troops and defense of Saudi Arabia and Operation Desert Storm (17 January 1991 – 28 February 1991) in its combat phase, was a war waged by coalition forces from 35 nations led by the United States against Iraq in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait.

1993 - U.S. Federal agents raided the compound of an armed religious cult in Waco, TX. The ATF had planned to arrest the leader of the Branch Davidians, David Koresh, on federal firearms charges. Four agents and six Davidians were killed and a 51-day standoff followed.
