There have been a few people coment on the lack of advbike training available locally (near Sydney).

As I work as I work in the rider training industry, for http://www.wheel-skills.com.au/ , At Wyong, I talked to the boss about running courses, and this is what we have come up with.

We can offer a full days training (8 hours +) for $125. But we need at least 4 people per course for it to be viable. There is a maximum of 5 students per course, to ensure the needs of each individual can be focused on.

Weekday course's are easy to organise, and would require minimal notice to organise. Weekend courses are no worries either, but would need to start at 7 a.m, and may need up to a months notice.

We do offer one on one training at $140 for 3 hours, so that opton is available too. But even if you don't have 4-5 friends that want to do a course, the best option is to PM me so I can fit you into a group, as the course will be much more time, for less dollars.

    The Curriculum

Intro - Classroom lesson on off road riding, posture and braking technique's.

Then do on bike lessons on the concrete training range.

    1. Low speed maneuvering - works on posture, balance, turns, clutch & throttle control.

    2. Braking

Once every one has developed the correct technique on the concrete area, we would then move to the dirt area and practice the same skills, plus -

    3. Cornering techniques. This will include slide avoidance / correction, for the front wheel and rear wheel.

    4. Steep ascents and descents

    5. Obstacle crossing techniques – logs (small ones), riding ruts, water obstacles, jumping (small stuff like erosion mounds).

Then go for a guided ride out in Ourimbah and Watagan forest, where we will stop and practice sections as well.

At the end of the course, if the participants want, there will be time for a lesson on trail side repairs – fixing flat tyres (tubed and tubeless), quick fixes for broken levers and cables, de-watering a drowned bike, etc.

The course will be suitable for novices and experienced riders. there are also hire bikes avaiable, SL250's.

And before anyone asks, I won’t be demonstrating how to jump onto a fallen tree and then launch the bike into the scenery :D

I will be interested in a refresher course for sure... but funds are a little low, so maybe sometime next year....

    Is that where you work??

Are you one of the instructors?

More importantly will you be the instructor for the off-road course?

lots of practice usually required to avoid most injury.

I suggest you go out and throw your bike away at least four times a day, practice highsiding it, lowsiding it, flipping it etc.

    (just please post the photos!)

Its all about posture bill. Just like riding a misbehaving horse, ride it into the ground and then some,:deal show that recasitrant BMW / horse who's boss.

Perhaps find an ex race horse to practice on. Get someone to take pic's for us.:evil

and here we disagree (tho knowing full well you are kidding)

one thing i learnt years ago is that when you are going down the last bloody thing you want is to be anywhere near your bike or, as bill found out, haivng your bike come after you.

I usually give the thing a bloody good push on the way off. Its worked mostly...
