buildit, that is ugly. May not be possible, but on some of my restoration projects with stuck swing arm pivot bolts....force becomes necessary :eek1

If you can get a hacksaw blade between the frame and swing arm, you can try cutting off the bolt flush with the swing arm. Then remove the swing arm and have the bolt pressed out of the swing arm.

If you can't get a blade in between the swing arm and frame, try cutting the bolt off flush with the outside of the frame. Then center punch and drill out until it is so thin you can break off what is remaining then remove the swing. arm. Then have the bolt pressed out.

Neither are easy. Both will result in use of words that will get you banned if you post them online :cry But the swing arm will come off.

Weighing my options, right now it looks like "drill baby drill" will be the next step.

Ok, I've been up since 4am this morning. I had a boring 2 hours conf call with Europe this morning. I'm canceling on going to Meefville tonight. Too tired to drive almost 4 hrs. :( I think I'll might check out Perry tomorrow since it's relatively close to Zanesville and then do the ride on Sunday there.

Luke, unsolicited advice- Try calling smilingjohn and have him check the photos to see if he has any ideas before you start drilling. I suspect that is some pretty hard steel. -Mike

I was on the fence, but I'll be at the road enduro with 3-4 others. We northeasterners have to leave at 7AM, so the middle of the state crew shouldn't complain.

Is there by chance a GPS of the route available? I have another person who wants to go, but will not be able to get there until just before noon. If nothing else, if you could tell me, or PM me the lunch location, I can have him meet us there.

Took a swing arm bolt ouy of one of Shawn`s bike that was frozen like that. Used JB Blaster for 3 days before it would break loss but it finally did. Give it at least 3 days of squirting the stuff about 8 times a day. Hit it from both sides (I know it won`t move on the one side but it will send different shock waves through it and when it does break loose you can knock it back and forth) GOOD LUCK !

The PB 50 is scented! It smells like vanilla or coconut or something...your KLR will never forgive you. ;)

That's what I would do. Pb blaster it for days. Unless of course you are in a time crunch.

But drilling bolts, especially huge awkward bolts, has never worked well for me.

Maybe try a air hammer. I have had good luck with them. They dont seem like they are doing much but then the bolt will start to move.

I'll second the drill as a last resort. Things rarely work out as planned. I had a similar encounter last fall with a football sled hinge, even with putting it in a bridgeport and drilling it out, it didn't come out centered. It didn't matter with the sled,it left more room for grease is what I told them, but it would be bad on the swingarm. Soak it and the air hammer or other similar shock for a few days is the better option.

I did call them last night before posting. There advice was basically bigger hammer.

So I driller the top off the bolt and about three inches into the bolt before a bit broke off and couldn't be extracted. The bolt is free of the outside frame on both sides as it will move in and out of each side. Not giving up yet but running out of ideas and energy.

I'll head out tomorrow and get some PB blaster as I'm out of the other penetrating spray I was using.

If you have some ATF & Acetone, mix 'em 50/50....works as good if not better than anything you can buy. Hard on paint tho, so use carefully.

    Note to self and others....
As soon as possible after you get a bike, pull the swingarm bolt out and anti-seize the heck out of it.

Hey Guys - road enduro! Sunday. Just east of Zanesville.

Sign up before 9:30, ride out 10:00 am.

For Christ's sake - you won't even get dirty. You mean I have to set the alarm clock? I even know some other guys that don't want to get up early. Maybe we'll do our own thing.

The guys that put this event on need us - participants.
    Paying participants!

Any event takes a lot of time, work, planning, coordination and plain old volunteer work! There's fun teaming up for the job but, it takes time, work and don't forget - $4.00/gallon in the F-150.
Nobody sends their kid to college putting on any event- hare scramble, enduro, dual-sport ride, on and on.

I look to have a good time - rain or shine - I try to show up to support these guys are young/old and energetic enough to organize an event - and I want another event - 5 and even 10 years from now. The Ohio off-road riders have been putting events on for a long time. Who knows how long? At least post WWII. And, I'm sorry to say, there are fewer and fewer events. District 11 has all but dissolved for a number of reasons. For those that have never heard of Dist. 11 - it's AMA's southern Ohio district - one of the most established of the country, proud father to numerous national champions.

One of reasons for District 11 demise - not showing up - imagine that. . . we could do our own thing.

Anyway - I'll get off the soapbox. If you want to ride, we got to stick together and support those that support us and our right to ride.

Got your AMA card? I was going to but I had to get up early. . .

See you there! - and for Christ's sake - THEY FEED YOU! See if a regular enduro does that. . .

I was making this video....JUST KIDDING...I know better now not to talk about videos here...

This is about FOOD....I love going to this bbq place called oinkadoodlemoo. They have great food and make these spicy green beans that I'm addicted to.

I was wondering if you guys might have any idea how they make them??? Google search hasn't panned out yet. :(

I figured how could I possibly get flamed by asking you guys a food question so let me know if you have any ideas..

Maybe just a spicy mixed veggies or green bean dish recipe would be nice. :D

I'm going Bob. You and BigOHio going to be there I take it? What bikes you riding? I'll have to look for you guys. ;) I just got my roll chart transfered over to the WR from the KLR which I rode last year in the ride. Hopefully I won't crash again this year. :( I'm leaving my street tires on the WRR from where I took it to Illinois a couple of weeks ago. Last year I had knobbies on and wrecked on payment because of locking up rear tire after some not so street legal dirt bike with no brake light decided to stop right in front of me after missing a turn.
