How are your rides going today?
Im pretty sure weve all thought how great it would be to unload the bikes like that.
Holed my case and slid on my back 40 feet down the road.
So not so good, then?
Eh, I rode it home and swapped bikes.
It'll be okay. I'm hoping the case is aluminum so it can be welded.
I'm guessing you took no damage?
I turned off a paved road onto an abandonded road that gets no maintenance, was traveling way too fast. The intersection was like a shallow "y" so I didn't really have to slow down to make the turn, as soon as I was on the abandoned road I was all over the place due to the compressed ice on top of the dirt, couldn't scrub off any speed, and went down hard. The shifter broke off and punched through the case; no other damage.
I slid on my back, but it was essentially like a big icy slip 'n' slide due to the road being covered in ice, so I'm mostly fine. My right arm is sore but nothing that kept me from riding some more and then going in to work.
The hole in the case is not huge, and once I got home I noted that the oil level was still right at the "min" mark so I'm sure no damage was done internally. A new part is $85, so even if I can't get it welded I'm only looking at $125 for shifter, gasket, and crankcase cover. Not a huge deal.
Got a little over 200 miles in on the KLX and thankfully no troubles other than I blown fork seal. Still a lot of ice on the roads less traveled.
I give Mark a lot of credit because he sure crashed with style. It rivaled a Moto GP crash for the distance he and the bike travelled independently from each other. Thankfully you are ok!
I only did 70 miles, stuck in 1st gear
Glad to hear you're OK. How fast we're you going? What kind of gear were you wearing? Pics of damage?
Rode down to Marietta and did some backroad/dirt road riding with Ruppster. Had a good time, did about 220 miles total. Back home now on the couch with a beer.
Sorry to hear about the get-off Meef, glad to hear you came away relatively unscathed.
35miles one way and a 35 mile car ride back home after being rescued by the wife and kids
Anyone know how to/want to fine tune the carbs on a XL600r
Good to hear it wasn't any worse.
About 30-40, Olympia Ranger pants, Alpinestars Scout boots, Olympia AST coat, dirt gloves, Scorpion helmet. No pics.
Glad your okay.
Thanks for not getting my bald spot. Did you get any audio of Alan telling me I was changing a tire wrong?
the hell with pics, we want video
Shouldn't have said anything, I though Flagger had joined Hair Club for Men.
Good ride today, 370 miles total. Ended up at Hillbilly Hotdogs after grabbing the tag and ran into four other riders, ADV lurkers. Ironically one of them was from my city of Marysville and the others from nearby Delaware. One of them rides a Venom Yellow Tiger and rides with Mikef5000 occasionally, forget his screen name. Had a couple butt pucker moments on the backroads today but a good ride otherwise.
Good to hear your okay Meef!
