It's been howling here all night. Woke me up several times. My trash cans are probably halfway down the block.

"Bring back the old Detroit 2 strokers. That was some diesel power." :clap

Nothing like the sound of a 4-71 at full song.

I actually have a 4-71 hiding out in the barn out at the farm. I always thought it would be badass to slap into a 50's ford pickup.

Fuel sucking, black smoking, oil leaking beasts that ran forever and were known to suck whatever they could through the intake and spit it out the other side. Real American motors.

I was in Algeria this past summer at a steel mill. They have a machine they bought in 2010 (powered by a Mercedes Benz Tier III) & a slightly older one they bought in 1978 (powered by a DDC 4-71). They want to spec another new machine...but they want to buy it with a 4-71! The 1978 machine has the original engine that still runs. They claim it has never been rebuilt! Which is mind boggling to me working in the melt shop of a steel mill. Either they are WAY better on maintenance than anyone else or it is a miracle....

I will go with the miracle theory.

    :D

But got to admit, that 4-71 sounded sweet when they had it running......

Hi everyone! New to the forum. Just thought I'd introduce myself to the local Ohioans. Just picked up a new 2012 Adventure 990 this past week. Just waiting for decent riding weather...wishful thinking. :cry

You don't have to wait for nice weather, it's already here. :lol3 Where in the SE? I'm in Marietta. If you're close I can help you get mud & scratches on that thing. You know, for Starbucks cred.
