Well the planning phase is over and the time for execution is near, so this is the beginning of the SMIB's do the TLH 2011 ride report. For those of you who don't know what SMIB stands for it's Southern Maryland In Breed. More to follow this evening...

I am stealing the first couple posts for the important stuff like maps and stuff which I will add later or after I return.

This post will be used to post our trip blunders, mostly a few side excursions that might be a great adventure to the some of the locals. These were not finished (aborted) by us, and so not recommended for the masses. Don't blame us when your bike gets marooned!

See post 207 of this RR to see the 3 aborted routes. The first two routes were north entrance to a sink hole. The third aborted route was in Gros Morne Back country.

    The following are my thoughts/highlights:

    1) What: Day Trip to Esker
Where: Stage from Churchill Fall, Labrador
Why: The trail is very fast hard pack with fantastic scenery, turns, two water hazards, one ravine/gulley wash.
Here's the quick link for more info and photos in this RR (Day 4, post 54)

    2) What: Back roads through Gros Morne
Where: Gros Morne to Marble Mountain/Deer Lake, Newfoundland
Why: Although these are fire roads, the area probably also contains trails. The scenery is very idelylic, turns and hills, and the fire roads more exciting than the alternative tarmac route.
Here's the quick link for more info and photos in this RR Day 12, post 122

    3) What: Zipline Tour at Marble Mountain
    Where: Marble Mountain, Newfoundland
Why: This is the largest (second largest?) zipline in Canada. It contains 9 zips, and you can reach 80KPH on the last zip.
Here's the quick link for more info and photos in this RR Day 12, post 122

    4) What: East-side of Red Indian Lake
    Where: Near Buchans, Newfoundland
Why: Fast dirt hardpack, some turns
Here's the quick link for more info and photos in this RR Day 14, post 145

Is this the final roll call? If this is the final group, then I need to change the betting lines on who throws the first punch....

    Blaster -600
    Pilot -400
    Dorito -150
    OMG +250

Blaster is now the odds on Vegas favorite, even with the "ex-Marine who exhibits road rage at a moments notice" going along... If you want to make some money, put a small bet on the long shot-- OMG.

Be safe and have fun everyone.

We saw many LEOs today, but this one was probably the most intriguing for us:

Ran across this pretty bridge on I-87 In NY
    [IMG]

Some nice rock formation in Adirondack Mtns (OMG thought he was going to rock climb them!) Is he a adventure rider, or a Rock climber?

Some other nice scenery...lots of debate is she was topless or not..

This is the GSA-approved hair brush....someone forgot to tell GSA_Pilot this was a motorcycle trip, not a prom event
