Gimme some slack! I was quick about it, you just cut in line ahead of me!
I don't know if this will be of any help, but I thought I would illustrate the different shocks.
We all recognize the Ohlins:
Here's the stock G/S shock next to a recently rebuilt (but far from new) Works shock with the [very] remote reservoir. The white spring is apparently a custom paint job.
Wassup with the paint dot morse-code pattern?
I hope Rosko can chime in on this question. It was his G/S until I adopted it recently--he had the Ohlins rebuilt. I suspect it's to indicate spring top and bottom and the original settings, but this is just a guess. It also has 70N hand written on the spring at the top.
i am not particularly proud of the hole i have dug...restraint has never been a strength. i hope to be lighter by two by the end of january. hope all is well with you.
Hey, I'm not the one to apologize to. I've got the bug worse than most around here. I know it won't be any consolation coming from me, but I sure understand your situation.
Here's to a speedy and complete recovery!
Here's a couples of pics of my "R80/100g/s/s PD". I bought this from the original owner about 6 years ago with 9200 mls on it. Has about 45k now.
2005 Alaska trip
another, cleaned up a bit
Came across these while in Italy in 2006.
This one was in Rome.
This guy I meet in Taormina, Sicily. Gotta like the riding shoes.
And last but not least, :eek1 this one in Palermo. I talked to the owners son, he said his father had sent it back to the BMW factory in Germany to be totally rebuilt and had just got it back.
Wow, super clean or what
This just in....
New to me 1984 R80G/S, #2918. Murky history, about 9,700 miles indicated. One thing is for sure, I need a windscreen. I've seen a few nice medium-sized clear ones in this thread that look like they were actually made for this bike, is there something available?
Here's the family shot....
I hope this means you'll be making racks for G/S's
BTW, I don't think the non-locking gas-cap tanks were made for more than a year or two. Desireable
Bike looks cherry...congrats!
What I'll be doing for the R80G/S and all airhead GS bikes is the Hepco Becker Racks with our Caribou ALS luggage and attach system, works great.
Here's one of the windscreens I am looking for, what is it?.... Some kind of Slipstream product?
and another, I like this one...
This is my bike and the screen is a Givi
I took the after market screen of my G/S and it is available. Although I have not priced it, PM me if there is interest.
Here it is:
I think this is the National Deflector windscreen. I like that one too but haven't convinced myself yet.
What is the exact part number, I like that one!
That is Junkyard's R80. He might be able to let you know what kind of screen that is.
I've got a very similar Givi (might be a little bigger), but never installed it. It looks good on your bike! Maybe I'll give mine a try sometime.
It's an A26P
6033 which appears to date from Jan 1982.
I no longer have records on the VIN of my first one but remember when I traced it back it dated to mid october 1981, built in the first 6 weeks of production. Both bikes are in Wellington New Zealand.
