LouisPoland....nice job. Can you tell us what some of those parts are? The hand protectors? Which seat is that and where you got it? Did you paint your rims or are they powder coat? What are the front forks off? I like it!

Checking in a year or so after I bought the bike. PGH winter is on us as of today (snow!) and it's time for a bit of rebuild work and some rewiring. (Is it just me, or should the headlight NOT turn off when I turn on the heated grips?).

last four on the VIN is 2243, it's an '81 R80 G/S and the VIN Decoder says it's a US model. I bought it from a friend in California who had to switch to sidecars, he put a lot of work into making it good for long rides in the mountains and such. I think I've got all the paperwork from the original purchase but basements keep making thing disappear.

I'm having trouble getting flickr to embed the image, so for now here's a boring link to flickr

I have number 2938. Came from Salzburg Austria. Registered as 1982 but is actually March 1981 production.
Recently added side bags, solo seat and rack, accessory outlet (thanks GSAddict!) and soon a clock I just found. Yay!

Here's my R100 G/S. It was registered in september 1987 and the last four digits in the vin are 2501. So I guess it was one of the very last bikes to run of the production line. I bought it in 2007 and the previous owner imported it from Berlin, Germany.

Is that a R100 or PD tank on your bike?

It's a 32 liter PD tank. Came with the bike when I bought it. One day I plan on getting it back to it's original color with the original PD stickers or maybe just some stripes in BMW motorsport colors.

It looks great. I have the original 19.5 liter tank which only goes about 240kms before I need to find fuel. Pretty much given up finding a PD tank for anything near reasonable money but I do have a lead on a R100GS tank which does fit and will increase range. Not as nice as your PD tank though! It just _fits_ the bike so well.
