since you can get a klr650 adv. for 9k and a ktm 690 enduro for just under 10k, then dress the 690 into an adv for 3k more, would you still buy it for 14k? or so... when you could buy a 990 for 18k.

I highly doubt the 690 adv from ktm would be any cheaper than $14k, new. I also don't think there is enough of a market for the 690adv from ktm.

I too wish they'd make one, I'd buy it in a min.
    I wish they'd make a xr650r 6speed and efi.... with e-start. that I'd trade in the 690 for.

    all about opinions......

I will probably buy a used 990 see how that goes if I find it too big I will down size it for the 690 and add a massive wind shield and larger tank to widen the front and tell my wife to get her own bike.

I agree that seems a bit high at $13500 as new in 2011 I was $16800 plus tax on the Dakar model
but you have to still pay 13% tax on the used bike now also
not sure how much value the side cases add - me I can't get into them
depends on the rider but I am looking at some soft bags for mine
I thought I wanted the "R" model at the time for the extra suspension travel but am happy
with the regular height as I am not pushing the limits of the bike and still enjoy it.
the Abs which is not on the R model would not bother me as I turn it off most of the time anyway.

Totally agree, i had my 450 and 950SE and it was the perfect combination.
I've ridden a friends 690 and was disappointed, not much more power than my 450 that is tuned just right. If i had one choice it would be a 950/990.
I've taken, and seen friends take theirs through almost everything, with a little more work of course, but that's all part of the fun.

    Hey Guys,
    [IMG]
After a couple years of lurking around and asking annoying questions I finally pulled the trigger and bought my first KTM 990 Adventure. Thanks for the help.

awesome - but beware of anyone trying to convince you to ride "the Ahmic trail" :huh
I'm interested to hear what you think of the massive wind screen
I read every post on the subject and then cut 4" off the stocker
had the Rallyraid screen - didn't find it any good for me
I like to look through the windscreen somewhat - habit from years on crotchrocket ?
mind you I'm just a bit taller than average !

The tall screen is pretty sweet it looks goofy but with the heated grips its great. I can't really tell about any buffeting yet, I'm still wearing a motocross helmet even on the highways. Once my new helmet comes in I'll have a better idea. If the weather stays as it is I'll throw on the stock one and give you my thoughts or you can just borrow the screen and try it for your self.

I feel like I've gone from using a telegraph machine to a smart phone..... This bike is amazing. I will have to bulk up if I'm going to be wrestling this pig down any hairy trails though.

Hay I know what you mean about the difference in bikes, went from a KLR to the 690. Like riding a tractor to driving a sports car that goes off road also.

As for the power coating where are you getting it done and whats the cost, might want to do my frame?

I was waiting on a few parts, wheel bearings that is. Turn out the rear on the 690 is the same as the 950/990 but no one drives those bikes or needs rear wheel bearings.y bike is close to being back together just have a few loose ends to finish this weekend I hope. It starts and runs so that's a good thing. Hope to do a test spin on Monday then tie up the loose wires.
Bring the girl out what are you waiting for, spring. Saw some guys out on hogs today so if they can do it so can you.

Make sure you don't get in over your head...

This was on the 85 (or 82?) trail between Novar Boundary rd and Old Centurion. I'd ridden it a few times in previous years. This time by myself (first mistake), and I didn't walk it first (second mistake). Rear end of the bike was submerged to the rack / seat for 2 hrs before I was able to get help and retrieve her. Mosquitos were nasty.

Once pulled back onto dry land, she started right up (after draining the exhaust system and cranking for 30 seconds...).
If I get the oil changed tomorrow and find no issues, I'll ride a bit with my son this weekend. But not that stretch.

I always thought those winches they sell for bikes were a bit of a joke but I bet it would have come in useful in that situation...

Been there rode that lol. It looks like the same place I was kinda stuck today but more power was the key lol.
The beavers are busy on some parts of that trail and water is over the culvert, I didn't risk it cuz it was deep before and now 4" higher.
Took out a bolt on my foot peg hittin a rock today.
