What is the smallest battery that will reliably start an R90/6 that has a solid charging system? I mean physically smallest. Don't care about weight. Just dimensions.

On that note, has there been any consensus about the Li-iron batteries?

I killed a 7amp Odyssey AGM in years running a valeo started.
    I'll try Lithium next.
It will have to be more than 7 amp equivalent

Some of the Li batteries have a maximum charge rate at a significantly lower
value than the output of a std airhead alternator.
Make sure yours are up to the job from your enhanced alternator.
I think failure to do this is where the exploding Li battery stories originate.

As for consensus - no idea
There is a thread either here or in garage where a guy is testing different battery types.
Might pay to have a look for a wide sample of opinions

I put one of these shorai batteries ( http://www.shoraipower.com/p-152-lfx14a2-bs12.aspx) in my 90/6 about 2 months ago and It has been a champ. It is tiny. I wanted one to fit under the seat. I was worried about the cranking power but it has been perfect. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

For a standard lead acid or AGM battery I wouldn't use anything less than a 17 amp hour battery.

That's good to know. Isn't the stock recommended battery 30 Ah?

Correct, but R65, /5 and some K75 models used a 18-20 AH battery stock from BMW.

I looked at the Shorai battery at a dealer's parts counter this past Spring. It was $300. I didn't get it.

I don't think I need to go the Shorai route to do what I want. I just want to squeeze a battery into a smaller space, maybe under the gearbox.

Ended up paying $151.95 (with shipping) from atbatt.com - service was good - They said I could return it for 30 days if it didn't work correctly. I was concerned about the ability to turn over the motor and was planning on going to the next size up if I needed to. Didn't need to.
