    I have an 85 R80
I need the build date for researching and also ordering some stuff
there was a break at 4/85 and my build date is not readable on the swingarm.
is there a way , without having to wait for a dealer to open on monday, to find out the build date form the vin
    thanks

realoem.com, enter your vin, it will tell you model/build date and parts numbers.

    Go to the original source:

    http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Enter the VIN and get the data.
Google will translate for you automatically.:evil

Unless it's got less than 7 digits such as a pre 70 model. Then it doesn't work EVEN though it claims to work all the way back to 1928.
    Anyhow thanks for that link!
I just got the build dates for 7 of my 8 BMW's
    Neat

    8 BMW's! :huh

Take care, they've been known to reproduce like rabbits... :D

(btw, did you try a leading zero for VIN less than 7 digits?)
