Greetings, I've got an '83 R100RT with the following exhaust part numbers on it: 18 12 1 233 031 18 12 1 233 032 I just put a replacement right muffler on it with this part number: 18 12 1 234 453 The right muffler that was previously on the bike had an incident. I dropped it at a gas pump and the mounting bracket punched through the muffler. I patched it with some soda cans and some hose clamps. Now I'm a bit confused. The new muffler is about twice as loud as the broken original one. Ideas?

A quick check of the parts fiche seems to show that this new muffler belongs to an exhaust set that doesn't have the rear crossover...

Does your bike have the rear crossover still?

Could just be that the new mufflers are built a bit differently and have a throatier sound than the NOS ones - seems the original part number is NLA.

If it bothers you, I would say get a new one for the other side and learn to live with your "meaner, grumblier" RT!
