Got my kit from Maxbmw, hinged. For an 81 RS with oil cooler. Filter has connected seal one end but not the other. No extra seal for other end.
Which way and how? Kit sez comes with 2 square o-rings. Not. Only one in the kit.
    Wha's up?

The integrated seal end goes in first.
The second "square" o-ring is seated in the thermostat cover. You'll see where it goes.
The larger "round" section O-ring sits on the thermostat cover too. It surrounds the raised section.
Then the thermostat cover is carefully pressed into position, and tightened down.
You need to know if you should use a shim and/or a gasket.
Measure the canister depth and use Anton's guide.

It's a good idea to test the ball and spring in the distal end of the filter canister. Just press it lightly to see if it is seated and is sprung.

Thanks, that clears it up. I have the -575 filter.
I'm also going to use the cover gasket and the shim.
