Well, did not get fence posts in this morning thanks to a profound obsession for completing the entire RR. Thanks for the write up, one of the best I've read so far!:clap

Time to put down the fencing tools already and break out the Roy Rogers song "Don't Fence Me In"
O give me land, lots of land, and the starry skies above
    Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
    Don't fence me in

In the process of reading this great RR. Thanks M! There are 8 of us doing the Alaska adventure the 1st of July. Shipping our bikes to Anchorage from San Diego and riding for 25-30 days between Alaska, Canada, Montana, Wyoming and back to California. Our group ranges from a 40 yo to a 74 yo and an varied assortment in between, been riding together for several years now. Mostly the southwest and most of Mexico. 4 in our group did San Diego Ushuaia a little more than a year ago. We've been planning Alaska for a while now and finally got our ducks in a row! I'll go back to your RR now and hopefully learn something very useful for our ride. Ride safe!

Hey..anything I can do to keep ya from working and all. But don't blame me when the wife wants to know where the new fence is! :D Thanks for the kudos, really enjoyed writing it. Now if I can only get the funds for Ushuaia....I'd have a ride report like this going for many months!

A wonderful RR! Took me a few days to read through. You write in a very entertaining style. Hope you're all healed up now!

OMFG. Can't believe I was able to survive so much self-serving nonsense!

Great report. Lots of great info for people who want to do the Alaska trip. The part when your riding partner just carried on when you turned off really sucks. I think the first thing I would have done is delete his contact info from my phone.

Stumbled on to this thread yesterday while looking at panniers on the net. Found a pic of your crunched box in a google search, that led me to a feedback post you made somewhere that linked this thread. Really enjoyed reading the report. Lessons learned post is a great read as a stand alone post. Good stuff all round! :clap

Thanks for sharing the trip here.

I enjoyed the RR a great deal, and would love to do AK some day, as far as riding with people, I have done many rallys and a few long multy day rides with friends and co-workers, but I would probably never take a long trip again with anyone but my wife or my son, call it selfish or what ever but it always seems like I am on a baby sitting mission rather than a relaxing trip, It is just imposable to keep everyone pleased all the time, " your going to fast, to slow, to far, not stoping for lunch soon enough"

To me it seems like if there is only 2 of you there is really not a " leader " but 3 or more there is.....strange... I don't like to leed but it seems like I am the only one to put in the time to plan things.

glad you were not hurt more than you were and was able to finish the trip.

PS if you want info on Garden Of the Gods or anything in the shawnee forest PM me, it is in my back yard and I ride there often.

Great ride report! Thank you, kept me very entertained all day at work!!! I live in Alaska, so I live the adventure everyday, but I really enjoy hearing about the adventure from people who do not live here. It's cool to see my home through another's perspective. Very cool report!

Thanks for the continued comments. I have told my wife that Alaska has gone back onto my bucket list once more. Only ride I've ever done that I think about every day since.

I just need one of you millionaires to donate enough so I can retire and I'll be glad to ride up there for a really long trip with one of you! :D

Same here.. I want to do Alaska again and instead of solo, I'd like to try for at least one riding partner to help keep cost down. But no Prudhoe Bay for me on my next trip.. Mainly to explore central/SE/west & Denali then I'm satisfied.

I'd like to ride to Alaska again but at a slower pace this time. Also want to ride the Dempster Highway. I was on the road for 26 days last time and that's just too much of a hurry. Six or seven weeks next time with more side trips.

If it's any difference, I already live in Alaska, so everyday is an adventure!!! lol. Your always welcome at our campfire!

Actually, I might be going to visit family that just moved to Pennsylvania, so I might have to pick your brain about heading down to that neck of the woods.
