Today was the most challenging with 30 odd miles of dirt roads followed by 3 hours in rain, sleet and snow. I was not prepared for snow since when I checked the weather forecast this morning it was supposed to be 40-60f along today's route. My times after the first checkpoint will suck since I had to stop for coffee to thaw out my hands. My so called waterproof winter riding gloves were anything but. Enjoying a fire in my own house instead of staying at the hotel with the rest tonight.

The best answer I have found for cold wet hands are Reima Baltic snowmobile mitts. I never leave home without mine when travelling.

Got enough snow last night that rooftops, trees and other surfaces are white. Fortunately the road was warm enough it is dry. 28f when I woke up but the sun is out and once it clears the peaks it will warm up nicely. Handlebar muffs are now on my scoot.

I'm waiting for the sun to hit the roads before leaving but I see a few are already on the road http://followride.com

Congratulations to all the participants! A group of enthusiast that got together at great expense to let us all participate in the ultimate journey. Bravo to all.

To DBC, congrats on your first SCB and thanks from all the scooter folks for your videos on repairing scoots.

    Yes, congratulations to everyone !

I'd been following DaBinChe's seesaw battle for first place since Day One. Those Vespa GT200s have been very competitive.

Congratulations to DaBinChe for a great run to first place and the big win in the Cannonball. It was well deserved.

I had the time of my life, but rookie mistakes took their toll at the end.

    Hey, cdwise

I'm a friend of DaBinCh's I never got to congratulate you personally on your Nola scooter enduro, you did a really great trek down from Alaska to La...what a life changing event... were you the only girl?.... I still do not know?

I'm only saying that because I'm a girl also, not that it matters....But Great Job!

Be ever so proud of what you've accomplished!

Dabinche was an incredible competitor. On the cannonball site, his slogan was "In it to Win It," but it should have been "Win or Die Trying". He rode that little Honda like a madman on a mission through the dirt, snow, wind and rain and stuck it out through some brutal conditions that he had to endure longer than anyone else in contention because of the speed of his Scooter.

Excellently thought out and well executed game plan.

The event itself is gruelling, especially if you are trying to win it. 10 days in a row of riding as fast as you can for 350 plus miles in unfamiliar terrain and weather on a scooter is an ordeal. Mechanical failures, mental errors, and the world beyond the event all take their toll. The days blur together, and then it is over, with a kaléidoscope of great images, miserable conditions, and people you never met stepping up and helping you keep going, rattling around inside your head.
There are places of amazing beauty and intrigue that you glimpse along the way, and want to know more about, but will probably never return to, and you end up with a feeling for an area and region that few will ever understand.

Thanks, women have participated since the first cannonball, some on vintage doing their own maintenance and repairs.
