    Good afternoon friends,
I want to share my trip with you to Prudhoe Bay Alaska this summer. I left Phoenix Arizona June 12, 2017. The reason I want to share this with you is because of all the horror stories and videos that I had read and seen that scared me into not making the trip to Prudhoe Bay once I arrived to Fairbanks. Thanks to my friend Emil from Canada who I met in Lake Louise to take this trip, that challenged me, and I could not turn down the challenge. As you can see, I had my bike loaded with about 150 lbs of gear not including 8 gallons of gas on my GSA. IMG_1995.JPG

I went through Utah and Montana crossing into Canada thorugh Rooseville north of Kalispel Montana. I met my buddy Emil in Lake Louise and headed to Jasper where the field of Glaciers lay. One freezing day for a desert rat from Phoenix Az. The temperature was 42 degrees without the windshield factor (about 20 mile an hour winds). IMG_2004.JPG IMG_2004.JPG IMG_2045.jpg IMG_2045.jpg

We arrived to the Alaska Highway. We had to stand in line since there were several bikers waiting to get their pics taken.

Here are some more of my pics to Alaska. As I had mentioned before, my friend from Calgary challenged me to finish the trip. We went to the Harley Davidson/BMW dealer in Faibanks and I saw a shirt that had a BMW Rider with a sign reading James Dalton Highway. Trails End. I wanted to buy it and my buddy said I needed to go to Prudhoe Bay first or the not for show offs. It can be dangerous but it is a doable ride. It does NOT take an expert and don't let anyone scare you away from taking this awesome trip! Remember that the road is dirt, gravel, and huge rocks like the ones you would find on the railroad tracks. But these rocks are only at the last 35 miles into Prudhoe Bay, so you are riding on them for a total of 70 miles or so. There are lots of them so you tend to slide on them. The rest of the road is gravel and can be slippery as well. Always stay on the tracks the rigs have made. It tends to be soft on the shoulder and you will go down if you venture too far into the shoulder. A rider did venture too far and his tires kept sinking. He could not bring it out of the shoulder and he did go down, ending his ride, totaling his bike. Thank God he was not seriously hurt (a broken shoulder and broken jaw), he is young in his 20's and will recover quick.
My rear tire, a Hidenau brand, did not hold up too well, 6,000 miles total (bought new in Phoenix before I left) and I had to replace it. However my front one has 17,500 and still has a bit of tread on it. I'm thinking that by letting 10 lbs out of the tires, and the weight I was carrying may have contributed to the wear and tear.
I hope this helps those of you that want to make this trip but for some reason have been scared away from doing it by others. I am by no means saying that what others have experience is false. I am sharing my experience that from June 20-24th 2017 while on the Dalton Highway from Faribanks to Prudhoe Bay, My trip was not horrifying, nor was I having any regrets. Yes you have rocks being flung at you by the rigs that are coming opposite direction of you. Yes you can't see in front of you because of the cloud of dust the rigs create, yes it's slippery at times, but you can do it!!!!
Its a beautiful ride and an experience of a life time. My next trip, Lord willing will take me to South America. I have heard so much of Argentina, Tierra del Fuego. Who knows, that may be next!!!!! shirt would mean nothing. That was the challenge.
One thing to keep in mind, you need to ride safe. This road is

Thank you for letting me know. I am trying to create a URL through Facebook but it seems like it does not work. I try to download using iPhoto but it only allows me to post one pic per conversation and even that is a hit and miss. Can you give me some suggestions what you use. Are there any free sights to use?
    Thank you
