From June 6 to 14 the 10th edition of the Albania Rally will take place. This perfectly well organized rally had competitors from all over the world the last couple of years and can be perceived as one of the nicest rallys on the calendar.

    Albania is a beautiful country where the off road rally rider is still more than welcome. After 9 successful edition will this 10th edition be one big party with;
    - 1880 km racing
    - 90% off road
    - 3 bivouacs
    - 8 days of fun

Dimitris (Doc) Athanasoulopoulos, good friend and Serres Rally organiser participates in the 10th edition of this Rally,
Dimitris was the 2008 winner, while in 2009 he took the 4th place in the general standings. In 2012, Angelo Pantelidis (inmate Brodovitch :cry) was 2nd in his category....

Dimitris is a unique rider and has been the No1 Aurora Rally Equipment development/test rider from day 1, doing the testing for all the equipment that has been developed. I cannot thank him enough, because doing R&D means that you are prone to problems while in a race, and you have to have nerves of steel to cope with the development of anything while racing for podium places. A special thank goes to him and the Off Road Team for helping develop Rally equipment. Having said that, Diimtris is running a custom designed magnetic roadbook holder, custom mounting bracket and he is also running the Highway Dirtbikes nav tower.

The race can be followed through FB and through the excellent orga site, Dimitris had some technical problems yesterday and although he was leading he race, he lost 15 minutes in SS1 trying to correct the problem, but kept losing time in SS2 as well.
He is currently running 4th in the GS, it's still early in the race and today they have 262 km day long, much shorter than the 509 km they had yesterday. The first day it was a massacre with people staying for about 10 hours in the stage, tough navigation and beautifull scenery as Alessio's photos show.

    Today's stage:

At ten o'clock yesterday, more than twenty riders were spending the night out along with ten cars that could not make it.

Difficult stage, too long and for some reason (to gain tim I guess) the orga left the riders to start in pairs of four. :eek1
Navigation problems cost a lot of riders time, resulting in some losing 15 minutes, some up to 40 minutes....

To be honest, I like this event more and more, small days and then long days. It has to be in my calendar for next year

Doc is trying to keep up with his 250, I cannot imagine what's going on in this little engine when he is chasing the 450's :lol3 , he said that he will train his heart out for next year and be back with a 450 to fight with the other guys :deal

Just reading on the Swedish forum (soe.se) that Calle's shoulder/arm is very pianful overnight (nowhere near full useage without immense pain), so there is some queston over whether he will ride today (thursday) or not...?

This seems to have developed (over the last couple years) into one technical and tough event... with diverse stages, much navigation and fantastic terrain. :clap

And this is not good from the orga's side...

    Copying form DaCarl's blog,

The penalties were removed from on the seocnd day, and now a whole stage was cancelled.... Weird because it's a short stage, bivouac is not moving today and some people (EDIT: actually, 7 people) managed to make it to the end... way point system did not work so that added to the online confusion....

    crap...

So 7 riders managed to complete the stage, regardless of the difficulties with navigation etc. yet they cancel the stage (because the majority of the "elite" complained/protest about the penalties?) and the whole day gets wiped? Unfair to those 7 who made it however.

interested if there is more info about this...? :ear

Even that, for me, is completely unfair to the others. I totally respect the orga's decision, but I do not agree with them. Whoever is lost, the rules are clear.

Anyways, tomorrow is another day.... and it will be a long day... Let's see if people get lost again what will happen...

So does this mean; that for Stage 4 (which only seven riders completed) those 7 riders each awarded a time (result) for stage 4 of 52 minutes and 20 seconds.

While the remainder of the field recieve also a time of 52 minutes and 20 seconds + a penalty of 26 minutes and 10 seconds = effectively a Stage 4 result of 1 hour 18 minutes and 30 seconds...?

If so, it seems a reasoanbly equitable solution for an inequitable situation.

The other options were to; A) award the seven who completed the course their actual times, and effectively DNF the rest of the field.

    OR

Wipe the stage 4 completely, which is unfair to those seven who DID complete the stage... effectively putting them at a DISADVANTAGE to the rest of the field.

Good compromise for a tough situation... Now the remainder of the rally is a battle between these "magnificent seven" ... all else being equal. :lurk

That is unlclear, yet I think that this is correct, No overall results are published yet for the rally :ear

It's a good compromise, better decision than what some people took on January with the mountain gate :evil
