Went to REI last week to look at few things just to get a feeling of what I want/don't want to add to my inventory for RTW trip starting next year.. I had a look at Jetboil and I thought it was pricey and a bit bulk.. So I think I could be sold on your stove.. But I have some question.. What cookware would you recommend? I was not impressed with what I saw at REI and wonder if there is something smaller and better??
I use a few different things depending on my trip and needs. Most of the time it's simply a single small stainless steel pot with a lid, about 5 or 6" diameter I guess, which has the capacity to do my personal meal of rice packet, oatmeal, whatever. Also I carry a small cheap square griddle to fry fish or red meat.
Sometimes I just bring a large steel coffee mug and that handles what I do as well. Just takes using it a few times to see what fits you.
Or you can survive like my buddy on Pop-Tarts resting on a beer can over the coals

Simply put, it works. I use the Sterno surround for wind protection and to act as a stable base for cooking. I used this setup on my recent 5k mile trip to Yuma and most things in between. I use a small tin can as a base and to help elevate (using sand or rocks inside the tin can) the stove to the bottom of the grate. Coffe, Breakfast, dinner, it just simply works. I like the slower burning stove better for everything but coffee.
A minor footnote, I made a stove out of a Coors Light (CL) can (after buying four stoves from Steve) and I like it a bit better, wider, holds a bit more Heet, and every bit as strong as the can Steve uses. I would have used this on the trip but I didn't find the right sized tin can for storage. The CL can will boil a pot of coffee and cook breakfast on one charge whereas the Steve Stove needs to be recharged.

The little buggers work really well.
Boiled me up a large coffees worth of water in minutes.
A little hard to see the flame but it's burning hot.
Here's the savings in pack size from my old stove.
It fits in this little coleman cookset I found at Target.
Excellent piece of equipment, smaller than I thought it would be .
I keep a bit of alcohol around for thinning shellac but it's easy to find on the road. Gas station, hardware store, drug store or grocery store will all have it in some form so resupply is easy. Also, the alcohol is clean, if it spills or leaks in your bags it will evaporate completely leaving no odor.

Anyone made bread of any sort with theirs? I was going to do a test of some bannock tonight after work while I am cooking up some burgers on the grill in the back yard. Trying to decide if I should use the regular stove or the simmering one.
*Edit - I made some this evening with the regular stove and a little 7" pan I have. Just flour, baking powder, salt and water. It cooked FAST, talking under 5 minutes! If I hadn't been watching it I would have burned it badly, as it is it got a few dark spots on both sides. I made it a little too thick and the middle wasn't 100% done but it was hot all the way through and I actually liked the consistency of the middle with the slight crispiness of the outside.
When I go to do it again tomorrow, I will just occasionally lift the pan up and am also going to try it on the simmer stove. My very picky sons both ate it up very quickly which is a good sign.
How do you add more fuel when the stove is still lit? Can you simply pour more from the Heet bottle? That sounds like a bad idea. (Pouring on more fuel, not the stove.)
That is a bad idea. I have played with squeezie bottles with the flip up lid that will squirt a fine stream. Even that gets messy with burning alcohol getting all over. Best to just let it burn out, add more, then relight---the stove will be warm and will begin generating quickly.
Okay, thanks. I also notice that it is hard to see the flame at times in this sort of stove. People should make sure its definitely out before adding more.
