sure, new agers romantasize the hippie lifetyle, but they like the modern convenience and technology.

kinda like the differnce between omish and mennonites:D

Big horn season most likely, I've run into hunters in that area and it's one of those special tag areas for big horn sheep.

... I was happier doing High Rock Canyon
downhill, from east to west, (per larryboy's advice)
    starting from
    the BLM cabin near the
    hot creek soaking
    pools by Soldier Meadows ...

... good call on your part ...
    ... the water hazards
    are really scary when
    you're by yourself ... :lol3

    Day 8 - September 8, 2017

I'm not planning to meet up with my friends until this evening, so I decided to spend the day in the Eastern Sierra.

I went for a long walk and took my time packing up this morning...

    ...then jumped on the road...

...and cruised down the non-descript trail through the sage.

I stopped in Lee Vining for a big breakfast...

    ...then headed down the 395.

I've got all day to explore...

...so when I see a sign for the June Lake Loop, I decide, why not?

I ended up doing the loop back in the opposite direction, meaning I rode the same section of 395 twice - a real loop.
I didn't mind as I got to see a sky crane working.

I knew I was a couple weeks early for fall colors, but I figured if there were any yet, I would find them up Rock Creek.

I parked the bike at 10,000' at Little Lakes Valley Trailhead.
I went for a little hike, but like and idiot I didn't change into my hiking shoes and shorts.

The views on this trail are incredible.

I wasn't feeling to well today, so I just walked maybe 1/2 a mile before finding...

...a spot overlooking Mack Lake. I've gotta bring my wife here someday. She's a hiking nut and would love this trail.

It's happening! I did find a tiny bit of color.

Rock Creek Road was a fun ride.

I roll into Bishop and treat myself to a late lunch at the Imperial Gourmet.
    (Friends = Fortune)

I stop at the grocery store and stock up on water and drinks for camp. We hadn't discussed who was bringing dinner tonight, so I just stocked up on things we could all share - Chips, dips, fruit, and candy. I hurriedly stuffed all this in the luggage as a big black storm was racing down the hill towards town.

Highway 6 is fairly boring, but to the right were the White Mountains...

... and to the left, the Sierra Nevada.

I beat everyone to Benton Hot Springs, but...

...just 20 minutes later I hear a screaming triple coming down the hill.

We get checked in and set up camp. A little after dark, @SFMCjohn also arrived.
    I'm suddenly not alone.

It was a nice evening of soaking in our own hot tub and hanging out around the fire.

    Fantastic photos and RR, Dave!

I just got back from an unexpected shenanigan this September, and am itching to ride NVBDR as soon as i can get away from work without being fired :rofl

Sitting at a hotel, "working" right now, and am really getting excited about this track! At least i managed to rebuild my bike before this work trip, after my July escape :lol3

Thank you again for the writeup! :super

    Dave,

Just found and read this in one sitting. Great job as usual with your writing and photos. "The Pig" in Winnemucca is a must do stop whenever we pass through.

Cool that you got to meet up with Rob, Nicky, John and Renaud.
