We're currently in Halifax, Nova Scotia and in need of new tires. In case we cannot get a pair of Pirelli Scorpions here, what are some alternatives with similar characteristics that we should look for?

If you are mostly on the highway the shinko 705 is a good tire. If you are more off road the Mefo or Henius (spelling?) are a good choice. The Mefo and Shinko both wear well. The shinko is the cheapest.

Yeah, mostly highway for now. I was able to ring a KTM dealer here, but they didn't stock the Scorpions. Placed an order and they should be here by next Tuesday. Its the Canada Day long weekend here, so hopefully no delays.

    - Heidenau K60 Scout is my pick; good intermediate allroad tyres, reasonable wear and tear

Ditch the scorpion. It's a problem tire in the front. Wobble, out of round almost impossible to balance. I am getting rid of my scorpion ASAP. Tried 5 time to balance and no go.

No problems with mine. Putting them on actually got rid of my wobbles and made it handle grooved pavement a lot better.

Almost 10k miles on mine, with some life still left. On a negative note, this was the hardest tire I've ever mounted. Will probably get another one.

I change my own tires on the road. How important is it to balance the tires? I could probably take them to a shop to have them balanced.
