A Friend of mine flew over from England, one of the things he wanted to do while here is ride in the musket ball run (a vintage bike run across the state of New Mexico sponsored by Antique motorcycle clubs of America) he found a bike to use but he can’t get insurance because he doesn’t have an American drivers license. (he has insurance through the rental car place but it will not cover the bike)

Anyone dealt with this? Any ideas?

Apparently some insurance companies, like Progressive and Geico will insure foreign drivers as long as they can provide a US mailing address (yours).

The only snag I can see might be that some insurance companies want to see a vehicle before providing full coverage on it (I'm sure this is because of scammers buying insurance after a crash). Hopefully you have a Progressive office near you if you need to take it there.

The other option, of course, is just getting liability only. I had to do that on a vintage car once. I drove an hour to the closest office and added full coverage.

I insured my bike with Progressive on line before flying to the US, no problem.

I've insured approx. 40 bikes with progressive for International Travelers. Not once have we had to show a bike..it's all done online. Maybe if you have something 'special' and do an 'agreed value' cover. Generally 'market value' will suffice.

Not quite random as in a genuine friend who I was travelling with but it does require a US address. There is a whole thread about this on the HUBB and it seems if you speak to them some staff are unaware it is possible and say they cannot offer cover but the one I spoke to was helpful and said it is not a problem.

Talk to Fernet (.com). And I mean talk, not email. Get hold of Cheryl. She's great and will set you up.

I do it on a regular basis for International Travelers. Progressive will insure you with a valid license from another Country or an International License. You do need a USA address.
