Ok, just stumbled onto this thread. Dutchy from Goes, Zeeland. I have a Transalp and an XJ550 project. Not sure if I classify as an ADV rider, but I am trying to get a feel for what is on here. I have ridden the bike to London last year and hope to take it to the south of Germany at the end of this month.

I almost became a member. And I went to a maintenance event at Ad's. But then I started doubting it as events are always on dates when I am otherwise engaged. Plus, I normally hang out at the XJRider forum as that is where I started out when I got an old Yamaha XJ600. I also hang out at a regional forum because those are all guys around where I live. And lately I have been interested in the ADV forum as I like the idea of travel. Though the TA might not be my ultimate bike for that. ;)
So, not sure about actually being an active member. Yet. But that might come.
Oh, and I am busy on the 16th and won't be able to be there. Sorry. ;)

We have 14 more free ride outs to come this year, so no worries... You will have your opportunity...

Love the old XJ600 series by the way. Rugged bike, deeply underestimated. Surprisingly I would even fit on it, being 6,8ft tall! Its from the same era as my early 80's XLV750.

I think it was alright. Not my seating position. So, when a TA came up, I sold it and bought the TA. Coincidence had it that I was offered an XJ550 only a week or so later. So, I now have both a TA and an XJ. Though the latter still needs quite a bit of work.

On Tuesday 1st April I will be heading from Utrecht area to the Ardennes for 2 days, returning on the Wednesday evening. I will be staying in a biker friendly guest house in La Roche en Ardenne. The weather is looking fantastic for some touring and relaxing.
Would anyone care to join me?
    Ewan.

Thanks for the wishes. I decided to leave this morning as the weather was so good. I rode south to Maastricht then moved onto more interesting roads at Spa. From there I twisted my way south ending up in La Roche en Ardenne. I am staying in a friendly guest house with my bike safely parked in a locked garage. The website is http://www.villalemonde.com and I can highly recommend both the guest house and the surrounding area. Today I rode many fun roads and even had an excursion through a forest trail although I'm not sure if I was allowed or not. Well there were no signs and no people around so....

Looks like you had a blast Ewan.

Looks like I'll need to check advrider a little more often.

For now I'm hoping today will be a dry one, 'cause I'm heading to Zeist for a night at the camping with the inlaws...

    Hi Guys,
I'm a kiwi flying into Amsterdam on May 26th and looking to get on two wheels around Europe for a week, so thought I'd ask for some local Advice

I have from 27th May to 4th june to ride before I have to make my way to London for work.

Where should I rent a bike? I usually ride a F800gs, but I'm really not fussy as my best bike tour so far was on a little 250 yamaha. Is it possible to rent privately in the Netherlands or does insurance make it a nightmare?

What routes should I look at? I've never travelled Europe much so it's all new. I wouldn't mind visiting a few WW1 &WW2 battlefields/memorials as my family has had a rich history of travelling to europe to get shot.

It's more about a relaxed cruise and cool places seen than km's travelled, so I'm up for any suggestions.

Also, I'm travelling solo, so if anyone else is up for a ride, even for an afternoon let me know!

Any helpful advice or recommended routes would be awesome as all I have is google maps!
    Cheers,:lol3
