I just found this RR last night, what an amazing trip! Thanks for all of it!
Respect for that journey...
Absolutely incredible. I loved this and your Namibia TR, thanks for doing it.
Absolutely an Adventure
I think I've read this ride report 5 times minimum.
I don't believe I'll ever see anything like it again. Ever.
Probably THE greatest RR I ever read on ADVrider, and there is some VERY stiff competition here.
Find out this RR only yesterday and i am glued... until the end of it i will read nothing else.
Several years ago someone sent me a link to this Ride Report. Metaljockey and his cronies blew my mind with their adventures! I have been hooked ever since and have many hours of enjoyable reading and down right awe of the folks riding africa, asia, middle east, hell, the world.
So I think it is only fitting that I make my first post on this report.
Now I am ready to jump in with the inmates and share my appreciation for what you folks are doing and start asking some Q's as I wean myself back off the heavy metal and get back into some adventure!
looking for infos on this area, trabvelled by bike,
i just found your posts and cools contents someone sure you can give me the right info i m lioiking for
ive been travelling in angola as well with my unimog couples of years ago - and travels very often off road with my adv 640 in kaokoland.
i wants to go back to angola with my 640 adv more or less the same route
first, dont find what period of the year you did it and how many days was your trip. can you tell me?
as well i m wondering about petrol range beetween bikes - my 640 makes 20km/l ( i ll say travelling off road in kaokoland for exemple, if i m very light on throttle ) but with my adv 950 ( i ve one as well, ) i make a 15km/l so with the 26l of the 640, i cover over 500km and with the 22 l of the 950 330km
if you took 56l of petrol on your 640 you can make 1100km, but the 950 only make 800.
at the end how many kils did you make without refueling?
that wil help for my setup! and i dont want to take useless petrol quantity!
and i ll go with 2 others 640 to better organize spares , loads.
Best Ride Report in '07, still the best going into 2015
Just gone back and reread this RR for the 6th time, still freaking epic man
I am glad Te Hopo commented today because it put the ride report at the top of the list and I saw it. What an amazing trip.
I have yet to take my 1st trip, but I hope to hell it is as wonderful as yours.
brilliant report. my sunday ride
Excellent photography and a GREAT ride report. Thanks for taking the time to share it with the rest of us. It's time for another epic ride so the rest of us can read another epic ride report.
This is the report that got me lurking here for a few years...
Can you come by and give us an update on what rides you have done recently MJ!!
MJ is lazy to write and also lost a camera with super cool pics of a Malawi trip he did with Hennie. Hammer him to get his ass in gear.
Myself and my wife in the mean time have been through Africa and around Europe and is planning to visit the USA this year to go to South America. Round the World - Do you have beer we are coming to visit?
Virginia, USA, you are welcome here.
