Holy crap!!! That could have been VERY bad for the rider. Good on him for his lane choice. What I don't understand is why the Nissan stopped in the middle of the road. For that matter, there were two bikes also stopped on the side for no apparent reason. Wonder what was going on?

Is it possible that was a funeral procession and that is why the first two motorcycles had stopped? :dunno

Then the Nissan stops, and the truck just isn't paying attention at all.

Wow, just Wow! :eek1 After reading the title and seeing the rider sitting to the side, I was wondering if the car in front of him was going to be rear-ended? I was right but still went :eek1

    Lucky riders!
I would be watching the mirrors in any unexpected stop like that, it was just pot luck the driver did not try to dodge right.
Texting I bet, and had no time to think about dodging.

None of the riders reacted at all, before or after....

Another reason not to stop for funeral procession when traveling opposite way. I've had cars swerve over into the left lane on a 4 lane hwy (opposite direction of procession)just to keep people from passing. :becca

I appreciate the sign of respect but the sudden instance of cars pulling over, swerving, slamming on brakes, then pulling back onto the roadway just creates an unnecessarily confusing and dangerous situation.

Rider lucked out the driver didn't go right or straight.

Why do people stop for those things when they are on the other side of the road?

    Holy Frig!

I just ordered a cam and hope never to take footage like that.

I have never heard of pull over & stop for a passing funeral procession. If indeed that is a law/custom it seems best suited to the days of horse drawn carriages and should probably be revised.

Wow I never even knew there was some sort of etiquette with the funeral processions. I mean obviously you wouldn't just merge into one, but why stop??? For that matter, I passed a few when going on a two lane street. I would slow down as to not blast past them, but sped back up as soon as I was ahead.

Why put yourself in danger, as well as cause traffic?

I don't think there was any reason for those folks to be stopped like that. The road looked clear and the opposite traffic was fine, no issues that I can see. The rider got really lucky.

Same thing for us Westerners--we stay out of their way, but we don't pull over and stop when they're just travelling along. We do, of course, stop to let the procession turn uninterrupted, but their escort will have stopped traffic for that.

Also, if you're going to stop for whatever reason, GET THE HELL OFF THE ROAD. The motorcyclists got clear to the right shoulder, but had the blue car actually pulled over instead of stopping in the middle of the damn road, the idiot pickup driver might have been able to avoid him.

Yeah, it is a southern thang. And one that I do not get. When I lived in San Antonio, I was on an overpass that was a two lane road that went up and over the interstate before merging with the interstate. Cloverleaf basically. Well, I had just reached the top where it starts to descend to the interstate when a stopped truck comes into my view. I was doing about 60 at this point and fortunately it was two lanes there were wide enough that I flew past the truck without any damage to myself or him.

He then honks aggressively at me with fist waving out the window.

Turns out there was a funeral procession on the interstate, going in the opposite direction :huh

Here is the road below. I was on I-10 eastbound merging with I-410 eastbound.

Had a similar situation happen on a rural two-lane road. Had to stop behind a few cars where typically it is unnecessary to stop. I moved over to the far right side of my lane and sure enough I heard a car behind me crest the hill and hit the brakes. I was watching for this and rode up on the shoulder and didn't have a problem. There was no contact with either car but it was close. Glad the rider was not hit!!!
