OK, got it. And car make/year too.
    Thank you.

I'm ready with the 3D printing. There is some change in sizes because of cooling/ABS, I will check it tomorrow.

OK, tested. The flush of the screw head not too important. But the diameter of middle part was 35.5mm, and on my seat that must be 32mm. I did some filing, and the printed ABS strong enought. I somebody need, I can give the .stl file.
Thanks for the big help, Bounder!

When my starter was about to die, it still could turn but the torque was low so it could'nt crank.. So i always push the bike in gear pass tdc, put gear to neutral and fired her up. It work that way. Rode that way for some time.
    Hope this helps

    Hi Francis,

a common problem with the first Dommies is condensation accumulating in the starter gear. That can result in corroded starter gear and / or starter bearings.
So I would first take of the cover of the starter gear.

If the starter gear is ok its often the needle bearing of the starter cover thats corroded (in this case the starter often makes a "screeching" noise).

for some reason Honda never sold the bearing or the cover separately, only complete starters :doh but since Mitsuba starters are used in almost all motorcycle you can get aftermarket bearings/seal . A cover of an Honda TRX will fit, too https://www.cmsnl.com/trx300-fourtrax-1996ref_model5190/front-bracket-com_31210hc4003/#.Wc3S-9Fx2Y1 (but with fewer shims).

Bytheway: there is a hint that Honda was aware of this problem. It you take a look on HRC XR600 you will notice that they got an additional vent on the generator cover.

And the NX650 cover got that opening in the cover, too, but its sealed with a plug.

Just about finished refurbishing my front brake caliper, when I checked the parts fiche and noticed that I'm missing the other, small, retainer 45112-MG3-006.
Now, I'm probably going to cough up and buy the thing, but I was wondering - how come hadn't I notice it missing? What does it retain or do?

It is a spring to keep the pads from rattling in the caliper.

Plus since it is steel it protects the aluminium caliper from wear of the steel pad backing.

    Hi!

Some more bits and bolts on my bike. I made some wiring work to drive new heat grip and future chain oilier.

I got the main power from the fuse box, on W/G wire. This has a 10A fuse, and used only for pass light. The other cable from fuse box come from Lg/R cable, which belong to neutral light. Other "signal" come from side lamp (Br cable). The grounds stolen from side lamp too (G cable). Schematic below.
    schema.png
Be aware: this is a '93 eu bike. AFAIK older bikes has different cabling: 4 fuse, not 3, separate box for diodes (neutral, clutch and side stand switch) and relays for main lamp. This fuse box has 3 fuses and 2 diodes.

In this way, the grips get power when light is up. And the chain oilier will be on when the power is on, AND the bike is NOT in neutral (87A connector on relay, not 87).

The heated grips are a cheap pair from ebay:

Joints are "home brew", but acceptable, i think. One layer heat shrink tube on wire, plastic cap, and other bigger, but shorter heat shrink pipe.

Because 3 out of 4 dashboard background lamps was out, I replaced all of them with LEDs: two T10, two T5.

What have some of you other RD02 owners done for handguards? I've still got all my plastics on, which tend to be in the way of the ebay handguards I've tried on. I don't really want to start modifying the plastics, even though I'll probably be getting rid of them some time soon.

    The E-bay hand guards won't last , they're cheap crap , that's why they're cheap.

For sale items belong in the flea market. Unless you can get running , one would have to assume the motor is toast.
