Well, I spent a long time as an Adventure Bike Wanna Be, but found a screaming good deal on a 01 Triumph Trophy - great bike, and undervalued in my opinion. Just waiting for the white winter crap to melt and start riding it!

I will try to post some pics later on (need to first get some on photobucket)

    So...any other Trophy fans here?

I have had a 98 Trophy for about 3 years. Has 85,000 miles now.

They are bulletproof, after you get a couple common issues
    corrected. (stock coils, fuel tap)

Sixty - nice! I just wish the weather here was like it is in your picture!

    Here is my bike:

I spent today giving it a once over. Front brakes are proving to be a bear to bleed. They were rather mushy when I picked the bike up a week or so ago. What seat are you using? Mine came with a Corbin - which flat out wont work for my wife - she prefers a flat seat. I bought a used stocker that is coming in the mail, which will then be sent off to Spencer for him to work his magic on it.

We have a Corbin as well, wife hates it. We are trying out an Airhawk, but have to wait until spring weather for further testing.

I will always keep the Trophy cuz it's a blast to ride, but we are thinking about a bigger touring bike in the future.

Lots of knowledge on Yahoo Triumph Trophy group you may find useful.

    Your bike looks great! Enjoy!

+1, the Trophy group on Yahoo is THE place for Trophy info. I have a gray '03, will have to root around for a pic.

Yep--I've got one I rebuilt from a totaled wreck. I love it. It now has a camper sidecar.

Yeah, I found that Yahoo group a week or so ago. Seems to be quite helpful.

A camper hack! Cool. I bet quite a bit of custom fabrication work went into mounting subframes etc to bolt it up to the Trophy. I put 50,000 miles on a sidecar rig - Kaw. Concours with a Motorvation Formula II - my kids practically grew up in it!

I don't remember what year maybe a 1999 in BRGreen. The Trophy 1200 was a great bike with 35k and pretty trouble free.

How does this bike compare to some of it's competitors? Say R1100RT, ST1100, maybe even say the FJR1300?

I dont think it's a bad looking bike for its size, and it's one I've not had mentioned to me while looking for a bike that's good 2up, and still reasonably fun solo. I know I've seen at least one of them for sale locally for a fairly reasonable price. Are the 1200's smooth, and basically vibe free?

elementalg20 - I dont have any first hand experience with a RT, ST or FJR, but I did log 100,000 miles on a Concours 1000 - and my real experience with the Trophy is very limited - 1 test ride before I trailered it home into the snow and winter of northern Michigan....having said that

Engine - I felt was sliky smooth, tons of roll on torque, not a "revver" at all. Much stronger than my old Concours, but feels very relaxed (mine is a 1200 by the way).

comfort - very similar to my old Concours. Bars do feel a bit farther forward/down vs the Connie, but similar. Seat height is taller. I am 5'10, 32 inseam - very roomy feel to me - would likely work well for a big guy. Passenger comfort/room seems great. My wife has long legs, so I did get creative and mounted up some different pegs that moved them forward and down a bit, but even without that, it is plenty roomy. My purchase of the bike was very much based on passenger comfort - we hope to log lots of miles. Stock seat is considered not good - our came with a Corbin, but we find the corbin's restrict the passenger from moving rearward - loosing around 2 1/2" of useable seat length. I ended up buying a stock seat, and sent it off for the Spencer Seat Mod (it is on its way there right now actually).

I did end up finding out the 900s and 1200s both have issues with head gasket "seepage" - when in cold storage, they seep coolant. Many guys just let them seep through the winter, top off a few ounces of coolant in spring and ride trouble free after that. I decided I just did not want to risk a failure in prime riding season, so my bike is currently torn down for a head gasket replacement. It has not been a bad project so far. Stock coils are evidently junk (Gill is the brand). Mine had been replace with PVL - so good to go there.

One big down side vs the other bikes you mention is the chain drive vs shaftie. Personally, i dont feel its a big deal - I put plenty of miles on my old VFR750 and never once felt it was a problem. Oh the Trophy is a fair bit lighter than the Concours, like 60 lbs I think?

Long story short - I think this bike is gonna work perfect for 2 up for my wife and I. Even with the head gasket work, I think it is a huge bang for the buck bike - seems they sell for reasonable prices and offer a lot of performance. One HUGE advantage ove the others - you wont likely see a dozen others on the road like you will of the BMWs STs etc.!

No pics on this 'puter but I love my '96 Trophy 900. Changed out the coils and did have fuel valve issues. Hate the stock seat tho. Would gladly trade it for a corbin as the wife very rarely rides with me.

For me, the Corbin is ok up to a point. Gets really hot after a long day.

I sure would like to try out a Day-Long seat.
