    Hey there,

I'm looking for people to ride with in trails and such, found in our area. I live in Moline, Illinois. A little about myself; I'm 28 and bought my first bike about a year ago. Since then I have been doing quite a bit of riding. I'm almost always up for a ride, so hit me up. I ride a 1999 Honda XR650L.

Peace and safe riding to all,

    Gil

I live in Geneseo and have mostly ridden off road. Lately I've become a lot more interested in dual sport riding but other then several organized events, there isn't much around here.

Layton, it is all about what you see as Dual Sport. There are a lot of curvy roads, gravel roads, and, I am sure, some dirt two track access roads thru fields. GPS with Topo maps is a great aid. We Peoria types do a few rides with that type of roads. It is more adventure than true DS, but fun. You have lots of rivers and streams in your area, which brings curves in up and down valleys. We did a ride going above Galesburg on over to the Mississippi on adventure style bikes a couple days before your DS. It was a mostly gravel and dirt with a lot of options to do two track dirt roads. I said there would be no gravel on this ride! I had to eat my words, while the others ate my dust. Actually there was very little dust, it rained a little the day before.
    cheers, mark

What Layton isn't telling you is that he's very, very old. And opinionated. And sometimes he forgets his teeth in the glass beside his bed.

I'm not nearly as old as Layton, Bultaco and the rest, so I still ride my dirt bikes, but I've heard there are good gravel roads in N.E. Iowa.

I know of 5 different areas around the QC that offer trails for quads and dirt bikes. The largest of which is located along the Rock River, however it's mostly flat. Also, all the trails are in wooded areas. The trails in Carbon Cliff, IL and Davenport, IA have a lot of hills which some are quite scary to climb. Also, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know of any events or group riding, even if it's 1-2 hours away.

    Thanks,
    Gil

Five areas to ride? Are these legal riding areas? Are the hills very hard?

    Hi, Gil
Do you have a GPS? If not ---- get one. Garmins are the prefered brand for what we do. Look in the 'Layin' Down Tracks' forum for 'Central Region' and find some tracks for NE Iowa gravel riding (I've done a couple of these) or if you want to travel, download anything that Cannonshot has posted for northern Wisconsin or the UP (I ride up in these areas a few times a year). There are some organized dual sport rides 1 - 2 hours away during the year and some 6 - 8 hours away, just keep your eye on the Central forum throughout the year. The season is pretty much done now so just start doing your research for next season. Welcome to the ADV world and if you need any more info, let me know.

Most of the hills are easy to moderate with the exception of 3 or 4 that are kind of hard.

Yes the hills are hard or yes the places are legal to ride?

Do you ride your bike to the riding spots or have something to haul it with? We ride some in the winter but obviously it's to cold to ride the bike very far on the roads. To cold for me anyway but I suppose there is always someone that that would do it.

You may want to check the AMA website or midwestenduros. com for dual sport rides in this area.

Edit. I see you were posting while I was typing and answered the questions.

Only the slowest rider in the group, has to worry about whether they are legal riding areas:D.
