I'm heading that way in the next month or three, no solid plans yet but I thought I'd see if any other riders were on this route and wanted to get together and split on a container.

    Heya mate

Got your email, yeap we are in Antigua at the mo, Gene and Neda are here, Phil and Jane also just ahead of us in El Salvador, nutha coupla single dudes as well but not sure of their timetable.

These are just the guys we know of so there will be more.

Our plan was to be further ahead than where we are but yeap a slight ribteruption has slowed us down.

We were booked for the June Stahlratte sailing, we then looked at July after the above, to soon and we would never make it.

We then looked at August, this is a ten day sailing and will cost us additional $720 US :eek1

So September on the Stahlratte or August for a container?

Is it worth checking with the others ... and how many bikes can we safely fit in a container?

We could be keen if we can make it work but maybe to far away for you?

    Cheers Andi

Well that's a lot of names I don't know, but what I _do_ know is that these fine folks got a container in 2010 and then wrote a blog about it, which you should read if you haven't because it has lots of useful information, even a fair bit on motorcycles though they took their cages. http://theroadchoseme.com/tag/shipping-a-car-from-panama-to-colombia

Bottom line is it looks to be 1-2000 bucks depending for a container to ship your bike across. These guys paid about 1500 bucks which is a sweet deal if you can split it enough ways, and still pretty good compared to 1k+ per if you can't.

If anyone is interested it would be great to get a discussion going. Frankly I was just thinking of winging it since I don't really have a timeline and speak Spanish fluently. But to save a few bucks I could always place a definite date on my departure from Central America, and August seems as good a date as any other.

Anyone else out there? Moto Kiwis, maybe you can poke your compatriots and see if they're "keen".

Definitely the fastest way, but the bottom line price is higher than the Stahlratte and doesn't include the idyllic island cruise! The idea here is to split a container enough ways to make it a cheap(er) alternative.

For us it would have to kick stahlratte by a considerable amount and be worth it budget wise as we would be quite happy doing then San Blas with Ludwig.

All options are open at this stage as long as they enhance our budget not bite it.

We are home working for the summer in Vancouver during the rainy
season in SA. My contract is until September 14 here so we are behind
your schedules. Also we have our bikes exported from Panama and stored
and ready to ship from Girag at Tocumen airport.

Otherwise we would for sure be into the container idea. Looks like we will
see a bunch of you on the road south.

    Cheers

Somehow after getting to Costa Rica I'm back in Granada, Nicaragua! I think I've got good odds for the trophy.
