Anyone know anything about registering European bikes in the US?

I'm looking at a bike on CL which is titled from Switzerland, it's a 2012 bmw gsa. He has not registered in the states and says he came up through Mexico. I've just moved to California but also still have a Texas address.

Does anyone know if this would be a very difficult process, expensive, or just nearly impossible?

    Thanks,
    John

When I looked at bringing my GS from the UK to Cali it did not seem worth it. The EU emissions regs didn't meet Cali regs and I could do something like a temporary import for a year then ship it out again or have it crushed into a cube. I would be super cautious and check out the details. Would love to hear if there are ways to make it work I couldn't find.

Thanks! I'll probably skip it then.

For anything <25 years old it might not be worth the effort, as you need to get it compliant with DOT & EPA reqs.
I'm importing a '90 Yamaha XTZ750 from the neverlands (as part of me moving to Mississippi).
