Anybody have any experience with or heard about this bike?

Just saw one in the flesh today, an '08 with 540 miles on it at a dealers. he says it makes 70 ponies and only weighs 250 pounds. Looks like a wicked machine:eek1
Great bike if you can keep the engine together. I had one and went through two engines in 1200 miles. Not a bike I would ride far away from camp.
Piaggio bought it back. I bought a 525 and have put 8000 trouble free miles on her.
That's the impression I got from reading some threads over on the aprilia site. Too bad that engine isn't more durable. Looks like they quit production of the 5.5 in '09? Is aprilia still in the enduro market? That frame and suspension combo looks pretty good. The dealer I talked to was trying to sell an '08 5.5 with 540 on the odo for $5400. I guess if it sounds to good to be true....
Yup, the only thing that keeps me from buying one of these is engine durability/maintenance schedule. It's the dirt equivalent of an F1 motor. I'd be all over a bike this size with a v-twin and more durability. I'd give up 20 hp to get it, too. Manufacturers?
I currently own one and it has been pretty annoying. Be ready for a lot of maintenance. It wasn't as durable as I would have liked either. If you're looking for a fast bike and don't mind wrenching on a bike (a lot) then It's fun. Harder/more maintenance then any bike I've ever heard of. The dealer even said that after working on that bike, he would never again complain about the ducati maintenance ( word for word here). Short of getting a Maico 700, you will not get a more powerful dirt bike.
Try looking at the 450 version, less issues with case sealant, a bit less power, about 50 hp. Still plenty for trails and fire roads. Fuel range is very short, 12L tank is a must. Parts and bits from AF1 are pricey but available. Allen Noland in Maryland knows the bikes well. Approx. 1050 miles on my 2007 450 rxv, no issues, BUT case was resealed before I took delivery. Good deals are only true if you know what you are dealing with I guess.
Orange sealant was an issue on the models up to 2008, the models with swappable mappings are the ones to go for if you dont want to spend money on a rebuilt before you go and ride it after buying. Many lemons around. They flood easily and then burn out starters. Be ware of it.
My 09 (straight swingarm) is bullitproof, over 300hrs on it now, about 15.000kms.
There are times when I miss my RXV, I really loved it and the power is ridiculous. I kept hoping they would work out the bugs, but it never really happened, that's why production stopped. Still, there are some that have been relatively problem free. If its not your only bike, it may be worth getting one.
Man I can sure see the appeal. I mean what's not to like here! This engine was/is ahead of its time, IMO.
my friend had one and it had all sorts of issues. he's a very good bike mechanic and was constantly tearing the motor down and rebuilding and tinkering. it was awesome when it ran, but a real finicky pain in the ass. it burnt starters left and right. if you buy one get a spare or get to know a mechanic and have him ride with you every where you go.
Get the 09 model and ignore the naysayers.
I have an 07 SXV550 and love it. It is no touring bike, its a full race bike with turn signals and has to be treated as such. It does what it was designed to do like no other bike I have ever ridden. I am currently trying to sell mine, though it is not because of any fault of the bike other than its short range restrictions and my itch to try something different. If I could afford to keep more bikes in my garage, it would stay.
