Met Bo and Craig at Turners Bend Tuesday morning to do a bit of preriding for the Byrds camping event this weekend. Had to park truck and trailer on the other side of the highway in the park. Craig said that they are going to build a new bridge across the Mulberry on the park side of the highway and it is going to take out some of the park. Too bad, cute little park.

You get these two together its a laugh a minute.

Snack time! Bo always brings a PBJ sandwich . Craig and I had to wait until we got back to Turners Bend.

Time for a break. Craig is finding he burnt a hole in his pants at the knee. Figured he had it up against his exhaust when he was picking up his bike.

One of several times I dropped my bike. Slicker than snot in this little bowl on a flat rock. Who knew?

Craig took another line. I was the guinea pig on this one. I should have listened to Bo.

You got my beer? Watch this!

Time to soak the t-shirt in the creek and cool off. Man that felt good! What a bod!

One of many slick creek crossings!

Time to skip some rocks and cool off!

Fun day but exhausting. Too many bike drops!

Talked to Brad, Turner Bend owner, couple of weeks ago when we were down riding. It just happened to be the day DOT was there doing surveys and the puplic meeting on the new bridge....Also the day he found out he didn't own as much land as he thought across the road from the store....seems DOT has an easement his paperwork never showed him....Hell of a way to find out....

    Byrds Camp-n-Ride

Had a good time riding the White Rock area this last weekend out of Byrds Adventure Center. Tom (Crownhorse) and I rode around the area Friday and Matt (Bamamate) and Scribe showed up Friday night and camped. David (Motoclimb) from Little Rock showed up Saturday morning. Here are some photos of the Friday and Saturday morning ride.

Tom and I stopped at Shores Lake overlook and dam on Friday . Ran into a young fella from Indiana that had camped the night there at the dam camp site traveling to California to work on a friends horse ranch.

Then on to White Rock Mountain. We were too lazy to walk all the way to the overlook so we rode our bikes. Sorry about the bad lighting Tom. We traded bikes and rode back to Turners Bend for a sandwich after this. That Husky has some serious muscle. Nice bike. Might have to get me one. Ha!

On Saturday we took out of Byrds and headed to Turners Bend to get a sandwich for lunch and headed out. Started off on Chimney Rock Rd just off of Fanes Creek Rd. Didn't take any stills till we got to the overlook off of Paradise Gas Rd but here is a video of the morning ride.

Stopped at Shores Lake Dam for lunch. There were a couple of bald eagles hanging out in a tree on the other side of the dam. You have to look close but they are right above the observation deck on the other side of the dam.

The weather turned out to be absolutely perfect as far as I was concerned. We got rained on a little early on but not soaked. Stayed cool pretty much all day. Coudn't have been much better in my opinion.

That is it for the morning. We headed up to White Rock and turned on Hurricane Creek Rd to the Frog after we had lunch. Will post the photos and video of that later.

Glad you guys came out. Enjoyed riding with you! Thanks for showing us your trials riding skills Scribe. Looks like fun but also a lot of work.
Good to see you again David and come join us anytime. It was good to get to know you better. Did not realize you were such a world traveler. Hope the concert was to your liking.and hope the rain did not put a damper on your Little Buffalo mountain biking.

Nice O'Leary, I wish you had video footage of the end of Chimney Rock Trail where it dumps out on White Rock Mtn. road. I would like to see if it is the same trail we rode last fall. Start at Fanes Cr. rd right at Cass AR. and end up at W.R. road. The end of the trail at W.R. road has some gnarly cliff rock to negotiate to get out to the bottom. I think it is the same one.

It is definitely the same one. When I prerode it with Bo and Craig I walked my bike down that 3 foot drop off the flat rock because I got too close to the edge before I saw the narrow path on the right. Bo went to the left. When we rode it last Saturday I led everyone to the went left and that was no bargain either. Had a dropped bike or two there as well.

I was looking for that in my video but for some reason I turned it off before we got there and forgot to turn it back on. Glad Bo had pics of it.

Finally getting around to posting some photos and video of the afternoon ride down thru Frog Bayou and back. After lunch at Shores Lake Dam we rode Shores Lake Rd to Bliss Ridge and Hurricane Creek Rd to Bidville. Dropped down to the Frog from Bidville. Them headed east once we hit Bidville then a little two track to Mill Creek Rd and Fly Gap West. Matt and Tom decided not to head down to the Frog and headed back to camp.

The only stills I took were at the Falls and further east on Frog Bayou.

It was slick coming to the Falls from the this direction. Scribe and David came in this way and I went out this way.

Scribe found the only rock around to sit on.

This washout was much easier to navigate than earlier this year. Has eroded some and the entry and exit aren't as steep and pronounced.

Headed out traveling east from here. Here is some video of some of what we rode.

It was a great day to ride. The rain knocked the dust down and made the roads pretty tacky and fun to ride. When we got back to camp we all sat around and chewed the fat for a while and headed out about 5 pm. That is it for planned camping events until September. See you all at Bear Creek or Long Pool. Have a great summer!

Yeah it's got to be. Has a rock formation in the mid point of the trail that looks like an old chimney? I looked at Bo's stills and the rocks and ledges don't look as steep or pronounced, might be the " pics don't do it justice thing". I remember you could snake your way down to the left but it was narrow and sketchy, I rolled off the big boulder to the right by haste and had to launch off at the bottom to keep from endo-ing.

That video that you posted going down to the Frog from Bidville O'leary is the same one that we climbed going out. Now that was a SOB of a climb. In your message in the video you mentioned "man this a steep, rocky mother". I probably don't have to tell you locals that will wear you slick. 5 bikes went up at the time and 5 bikes struggled for sure.

I can only imagine how hard a climb that would be going up the 'steep and rocky mother'. You are a way better man than I if you climbed that hill. That is why I was so elated when we got to the bottom. I did not want to think about that trail being blocked and having to turn around and go back up to get out.

And that ledge on the Chimney Rock trail, I walked my bike over that and still high centered on the skid plate. That is a good 3 feet or more drop. I could see an endo happening if I would have tried to ride off that ledge.

I was riding around Frog Bayou yesterday and the Forest Service was dozing the east entrance. They said they would continue towards the falls and would go as far as they could by July 5th.
