LittlePosum and I were curious if there are any meet ups or rallies going on in Arkansas around the 3rd week of June.:freaky

I don't know of any official rallies at that time... but if actually riding in arkansas is part of what you're after, I'm sure some folks here or part of the ARA - Arkansas Adventure Riders would be glad to lead you on a good ride while you're here or share with you some good tracks to explore on your own.

Very cool, I'll be lurking in the regions forums between now and then. We will be riding through Oklahoma and Arkansas in your region.
I'll bump this thread back up as we get closer to the date!:clap
We want to meet locals for sure as we travel, large gathering or not.

Just post up here as your trip gets closer or post on the ARA FB page. Or you can pm me your email.

We're always looking for an excuse to ride. But remember, sometime around or just before July 4th, it starts getting hot in Ar.

    PM sent!:clap

Our plan is to leave Bend, Oregon on 6/12 and be in Arkansas around 6/20.
We are not taking much time to get through OR, ID, NV, UT, and CO since those are close enough we can pretty much go anytime. Once we hit Tulsa (my dad lives there) our pace will really slow down.
The heat and humidity, yes we are prepared for that! You do have good swimming holes right?

Edit: I am on a Honda XR600R and LittlePosum a Suzuki DRZ400S. We're pretty much up for anything!
    A couple of pics.

:D Haha, sorry I guess sometimes the sarcasm can get lost in the text. Trees and shrubs work as fine and dandy bathrooms for me! Occasionally out in the desert all you have to hide behind is the shadow of your dirt bike. :lol3

That is just what we are looking for!:thumb

We will be camping for almost all of this trip. Our typical setup is like this[IMG]
    amongst the scorpions and rattlesnakes.

We have a tent that's coming along on this trip. Doesn't rain much here in the summers. But that will be different as we head east.

I had to look up what a chigger is. Sounds like they're annoying at worst?

Thanks for the responses and PMs! :clap

I would say them chiggers are the scourge of the earth:boid:boid

You get em and you may not sleep well for a week cause they itch so bad. I hate chiggers.... its like the worst infected mosquito bite you've ever had times 10.... and you may have 50 bites all at once.... miserable for sure... no lie....

if you want to do free, "primitive" camping, like in your pic, there are LOTTSA "deer" camps along the dirt roads, complete with stone lined campfire pits filled with beer cans to accommodate ya..just stay in the clearing and out of the woods to "minimize" the ticks and chiigers

My best to you on the marriage and voyage! I've been here about 6 years from MA. My suggestions:
NW and Central AR - White Rock Mountain, Eureka Springs, Boxley Valley & Buffalo River.
Eastern OK - Flint Creek and Illinois River Watershed. Just find gravel and ride.
Southwestern, MO - Elk River & Big Sugar Creek (but watch out for summer weekends on the Elk - It's pretty close to fat hillbilly porn given the drunken nudity).
All these areas have various levels of camping, many gravel roads/trails to get you there.
As we get closer to the arrival make sure you flip through the NWA Ride report thread. Many of the inmates there are friendly and will give advice. Give me a shout if you want and I'll even join you for a spin (perhaps with my girlfriend riding her bike as well)!

Till then - Cheers! and keep your feet warm!:clap

Arkie is accurately describing the whole chigger experience. Be sure to pack a can of Deepwoods Off or Cutter's to spray on your boots and pants to help keep the nasty critters at bay.

Deet and if you plan to hike while here bring some powdered sulphur to put around the tops of you socks and boots. Chiggers don't like it.
