Here is the track Craig and I rode to Forester. I have included another one starting and ending at Dardanelle. Both are big bike friendly. The number on the end is how long they are. If you get hungry and want a few more food choices, Waldron is about 20 miles from Forester. Go west on 28 and then north on 71.

Yeah, I saw that. I heard the guy in the blue trunks wondering about the depth of the water before he jumped. I think I would have checked that out first. Neither one of them said anything about hitting the bottom so it must be pretty deep there.

    West Fest 2017

A group of AR riders attended the 2017 West Fest held in Steamboat Springs last weekend. It was kind of a last minute thing for me and several others. Scotty69 was making a trip out to Colorado to clean up some property he has out there and was hauling his trailer out there about the time of West Fest so I scheduled a business trip at the same time and he hauled my bike out there. Sound familiar. I flew out to Longmont, CO and rented a van to take care of business Tuesday and drove to Steamboat Springs on Wednesday.

I ended up bunking in with Tom (Crownhorse) in his RV. Scotty, Zach, Anthony, and Donnie stayed in a hotel in Steamboat Springs and Scribe camped at the KOA. Had a great time. Weather was about as good as it gets. Riding Colorado is always a treat, and having a bunch of Arkies in attendance was just icing on the cake.

Photobucket has kind of thrown me a curve on their new pricing structure so I am still trying to figure all of this out. I am adding a link to the album of pictures that I took and will post a bit of video in a day or so.

Hooked up with David TypeSH last Saturday and he wanted to ride the Spirits Creek trail. Rode over there from his place and wanted to ride it in the other direction from what I did last being North to South. When we got to the North entrance we found a gated entrance with 'Road Closed' sign. Decided to check it out anyway. Got in a ways to the first creek crossing and found it to be pretty overgrown like noone had been that way in a while. Decided to head back to White Rock Mountain Rd and go further east. Took pretty much the first right and it was Ellis Road. This was new to me. Come to find out it took us down to Spirits Creek about a third of the way south from the entrance. Kewl ride. Lots of climbs and descents. Here is a video of some of it.

    Hey
Any word on a Bear Creek ride this year. I know it was canceled last year; but, is it gonna be on this one?

    Bear Creek Camping Event

It doesn't look like the Bear Creek Trail event is gonna happen this year either. The rider with the contacts with the guy who owns the marina isn't gonna make it this year so I guess that is a no go. I am not going to be able to make it on that date either as something else has come up that I need to be traveling that weekend. May have to cancel the September event this year.

Not entirely in Arkansas as far as rides go, but WFO Pete and myself did ride through the very northern tip of the state and into Missouri to see the total eclipse north of Cape Girardeau. My iPhone didn't take very good pictures during the "event", but I did get this picture of Pete behind his Tenere ready to view the eclipse:

I believe his intention was to get in a valuable nap in the afternoon since it was going to be dark.

In the perfect position to view a total eclipse. I was surprised how light it was here when the sun was 92% covered. One of the guys at the office had some glasses and it looked like the sun was almost covered but still plenty light out.

I agree...I took my kids out of school to experience it...90% here in Greenbrier and I fully expected it to get pretty dark, but certainly wasn't the case. Must say I was a bit disappointed but ignorance on my part I guess. Also Didn't realize we'll get a chance to see totality in 7 years here in Arkansas.

I don't know how chiggers are in AR but in Mo that close to weeds with out protection is asking to get ate up. I saw a lot of kids laying on quilts just about that close to the brush Monday. I was just hoping they had been sprayed with Deet.

I was somewhat disappointed in the darkness in the total "zone". I watched through my glasses until the absolute last little spec of light disappeared and though it was almost like someone flipped a light switch, it wasn't totally dark. There was still a halo that put out enough light I could see people around me. It was more like it was dusk. This isn't a picture I took (which was really bad) of the eclipse, this is the closest to what it looked like that I could find on the internet.
    upload_2017-8-23_12-9-27.png

We were in the total zone but a coworker was about 20 miles further in and said it was about the same... maybe lasted a little longer. It was still awesome to see.

Not sure about the chiggers in Missouri... Pete didn't complain but he would probably taste bad to them anyway. Of course, I grew up in Texas and chiggers were the least of your worries if you were on the ground.

Went for a little ride around Lakes Winona and Sylvia. There were 9 of us 1 DR650 (me), 1 KLR650 (Conrad), 3 Africa Twins (Jason, Kenneth and David), 1 S10 (Ken), 1 NC700X (Matt), 1 BMW 1200 (Lance) and BMW f650GS (also David). I ended up with around 200 miles from my doorstep back to my door at the end of the day. A big time was had by all despite the dust and a few missed turns.
We met at Williams Junction around 9ish. There we ran into Dogjaw, Kyle, JoAnn and Charlie Bravo doing a street ride that day.

After this we went to Jessieville to get some burgers at The Shack where we ran into the street crew again and had lunch with them.

Up to this point we had stayed pretty much on fire roads which were kind of dusty so after lunch we decided to tackle something a little more technical.

I knew there was a section that would make some good pictures so I ran ahead to set up to take some pictures. They did not disappoint.

This particular section had some technical rutted out areas, mud puddles that we weren't sure how deep they were and some fantastic double track. We came up to the end of this section and took a break. We all agreed that we thoroughly enjoyed that particular section.

After the spillway we shot the breeze a little bit and all went our separate ways. I headed home to with Dogjaw a happy birthday

White Oak Creek and Mountain Creek Falls

Hooked up with David (TypeSH) last Saturday and decided to check out the White Oak Creek & Mountain Creek Falls (otherwise known as 60' falls). Weather was awesome but still managed to work up quite a lather riding down to the 60' falls. Stopped at Turners Bend for lunch and then rode to check out the White Oak Creek Falls. It was a great day to be out. Here are some photos that David took with his phone.

Here are the photos that I took. Obviously Davids are better. Love that panoramic view.
