    Hello fellow adv friends,

Thanks so much for all the kindness expressed here. In particular, to Jim P and MikJ. I have done nothing to deserve such generosity - even for just the idea - I am humbled in the extreme. And to ChrisK, to whom my reply was perhaps a bit sharply worded, even if it was honest, I suppose I owe an apology.

By nature, I am loathe to accept the help of others, much less ask for it - probably stemming back to army officer ethics/priorities of "1)mission/ 2)men/ 3)me". I used to view spurning help as a virtue - I am slowly learning that is merely a subtler form of pride. I'll not turn away help that is sincere - but wish no one be put out or inconvenienced on my account - especially as Christmas looms. I know it's a time when folks usually focus on their own families, and that's totally fair.

I'll check on the other thread - and see if we can move Bacon along. This is his thread, not mine! :)

    Kindest regards to all,

    Daniel

PS: RE riding season - I have commuted on my bike through December here - so long as there's no snow/ice, it's good. Rockies and Prairies, a bit of a different story - hopefully Bacon can push through one way or the other.

And just remembered it's bacons 5th birthday on the 26th November 2012. The Dakar would be a perfect present !!!

Wow. Bacon was in Lacombe, Alberta. That's ten minutes from here. That porker sure gets around.

Sorry you are having problems and I hope things look up for you soon.

Exactly where is Bacon now, what town in Canada?

Sending bacon through snail mail defeats the whole purpose of his journey.
He was supposed to ride on the bikes around the world.
    Not be mailed.
If you start shipping him now, he'll get shipped again later.
This was not what was originally intended.
If you break the rules now, you might as well just end his journey.
    That is all.

You might like to read the rules some time...

    - The mascot must ride by bike where possible. Obviously there may be a few plane/boat trips in there from country to country.

    I read the rules.
    These two are key:

    - All people carrying the mascot must be an ADVrider.com member.
    - The mascot must ride by bike where possible. Obviously there may be a few plane/boat trips in there from country to country.

I don't know anyone in the postal service that is an ADVrider.com member.
The boat trips would normally be with an ADV rider moving between countries with his bike.
Obviously there won't be a bike on a plane.
But they are just guidelines anyway.
Bacon has been traveling for 5 years now and I'm sure there were some exceptions made at some point.

I made the suggestion of mailing Bacon - it was simply trying to find a way of getting him moving again if the riding season was over in his current location rather than seeing him sitting idle for a few months !

I think this is one of those occasions where, if really necessary, rules can be 'forgotten' on one occasion ?

My view on this is that if those people on that "I want him" thread list, living within 200 miles of Daniel (Canadius_Maximus),[Vancouver] can't be arsed to get out and meet him somewhere half way(ish), even if it's by car, then they should remove their name from that list.
If no-one is willing to do that then post him on.

I will talk to the rider (he is an AdvRider inmate !) tomorrow - obviously he may have other things on his mind apart from taking our little porker sightseeing in January !

    Fingers crossed.................

We have to give Canadius_Maximus a break. Family comes First.
There have been interruptions and disruptions in Bacons travels in the past.

I do know C_M is trying to hand Bacon off to some locals (as his time permits)

To be honest I would like to see him stay and see a bit of Canada if it is at all possible - if it means he sticks in one place for a sort while I think it will be worth it and will stay within the spirit of the relay. And i am sure there is plenty of michief he can get up to even if it does not involve bikes ! :D:D:D

I contacted Canadius_Maximus early this summer to see if he could hand off Bacon to one of the riders coming up to the NI Ride: http://youtu.be/VPkWGV-Ddk8

I figured this would add an interesting chapter to Bacons journey but for some reason the issue of handing off was not pursued much on either side...
