I know it would help and it is a good idea, but the thought of sitting in a classroom when I could be sitting on my motorcycle or better yet......the beach......keeps from ever doing it
    But never say never

I am always looking for a safe hostel/hotel that can keep my bike inside when I am not camping. This was a good one. Even my bike got to relax out by the pool

Usually when the hostel has pets that run around, they are not the cleanest place to stay. But it was ok, because I really liked this dog

Here in Costa Rica, sometimes you can ride on the beach. This is the road to beautiful Playa Conchal.
It is also near the spot I was forced to ride my big heavy bike in the deep sand

I rode my bike off road about 20 miles to Volcano Rincon Park. I wanted to hike up the volcano and look down in to the active crater but the trail was closed due to recent activity. But there were other sites in the area including waterfalls. As I got closer to the park, the road got much worse. Lots of rocks and slick dirt. I thought that it would be impossible to ride the road if it rained. But since it was the dry season, I wasn't concerned. It hadn't rained in days. As my luck would have it.........it rained all night.

I saw the aftermath of this accident on the way to Samara. I heard the guy was ok. Surprising considering the size of the broken window and smash in the hood

I camped on the beach in Samara. I slept in a noisy campground. But I got to see a beautiful sunrise from my tent in the morning

There is a route you have to do in Costa Rica.
I rode from Samara south to Mal Pais along the coast. The road hugs the coastline thru the mountains. Sometimes the road is 500+ feet above the water with great views. There are also some secluded beaches to stop at along the way. On my map, it only looked like it was about 40 miles but it took me about 4 hours to get there. And the closer I got to Mal Pais, the tougher the road got. In two places, I had to cross a river. One of them was pretty deep. I could see the water was up to my cylinder heads. The other one had big rocks under the water. I didn't think I could do it but the big GS chugged right thru. I hit some of the rocks but I had enough speed going that I just powered thru. I have to say it was a pretty awesome feeling to make it to the other side. I don't think I would have even tried to cross if I didn't see someone else doing it on a 100 cc bike. But they pushed their bike thru.

Then the road to Mal Pais took an unexpected turn........the road dumped out on to the beach. I figured I had made a wrong turn. But I asked and they told me to go 4 kms down the beach and then back on to a road. It was crazy! The sun was going down and a full moon was coming up at the same time. It will be a memory that I won't soon forget

After leaving the beach, the road hugged the coast right next to the beach for a while. It was a very technical road for a big bike but lots of fun........ and scenic too. My headlight at this point was lighting the way. All these roads were not on my GPS and it was dark so I was not really sure which way to go. I got to some unsigned intersections and had to make a guess which way to turn. I ended up making a wrong turn and it sent me the wrong direction. Then I came around a sharp corner and down a steep hill. I could see another water crossing up ahead illuminated by my headlight. The approach was very slippery. I wanted to turn around but it was way too steep and slippery to get my bike pointed back the other way. I had no other choice but to cross this river in the dark. I couldn't see how deep it was or where the best place was to cross because it was dark. I picked a line and got to the other side without a problem. The other side of the river had a step up hill climb. The road was wet and the clay road was as slick as ice. My back tire slid out and then gripped just in time before my big bike would have toppled over. I was fanning the clutch and every ounce of my focus was on maintaining traction with my back tire as I climbed out of the river valley back on to the dry road. It was close, but I got thru ok. I asked someone for directions and they told me that I had gone the wrong way and that I needed to turn around. I didn't want to cross that damn river again so I took the long dusty road in to Mal Pias. I got there about an hour after dark and was very tired. That beer really tasted good last night. Sorry.....no more pictures at that point. It was dark and I was tired.
