I forgot how much fun surfing is. And the waves here are great. I surfed both Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. Both days were 6 feet plus. The faces were 10 feet. I got some very memorable rides. But the one that I will remember most was the wave that took me for a ride. I was paddling back out after riding a wave and a big set came in. The first wave held me under the water for quite a while and took my breath away. And then I came up for air and there was an even bigger wave just about to break on me. I paddled hard to get over the top of the wave but it was more powerful than I thought. The wave lifted me up and pitched me over the falls. I could feel my body free falling down the face of the wave. Then I could feel the water water thrashing my body around under water at the bottom. Then, it was like I was in a washing machine, and the wave was still not done with me. It picked me back up again and threw me down again, this time slamming my body against the bottom of the ocean. It held me there for a bit. I was completely out of breath at that point and needed some air. When you are under water, you don't know which way is up. But since I was on the bottom, I pushed up with my legs and made my way to the surface for some air. Fortunately, the wave set was over and I was able to paddle back out for more.

Montezuma is a hippy town on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. There is no surf here but there is a cool river with some waterfalls and swim holes to play in

Here is the lower falls. It is about 100 feet . Too high to jump from but it has a nice pool to swim in

Here is the middle falls. To get there, you have to climb up the side of the waterfall using roots and anything else you can to pull yourself up

You can jump from this waterfall in to the deep pool below. It is 45 feet and it hurts a bit when you hit the water.

I am very impressed with your list of the people travel the world you met along the way.
How long have you been with this trip? And you are planning for the 800days trip as your thread title?
    Ride safe and have fun!

At the beginning of my blog, I mentioned that you can do anything you want in this world as long as you are willing to pay the price.
    I sold my house
I sold my 1967 lotus elan
    I sold my XR650R
I even sold my Dan Gurney Eagle BMX bike that I have had since I was 9 years old.
I was ok with getting rid of all those things
But I just lost something that I was hoping that I wouldn't ever lose
I lost my girl friend and my best friend.
She was a perfect fit for me.
    She loved motorcycles.
    She was fun
and she had a good head on her shoulders and a big heart.
But with me being gone so long took its toll on our relationship.
She wants more and I guess I don't blame her.
Now I am really traveling alone.
I paid a big price to do this trip.
Makes me wonder if it is all worth it.
And until you have to give up something you love to do something else that you love, you don't know how I am feeling.
At this point, there is no going back and trying to repair the damage that has been done. Part of me wants to try. But I have come this far. I might as well keep going. I dont really have much left to come back to

No you're not! You see how much support you have from folks you have never met.

Look she knew your deal, who you are and the vigor with which you attack life with when she got into your dish. Even if you walked away yesterday, it would be something else tomorrow. Hang in there Ed. This too will pass!

++++++1 Having done many a boys trips and adventures, my bride of 26 years understands how I am wired as I do for her. Sometimes it's just not a match and we move on with the pain and hopefully learn and grow from the experience. The good news? The open road is some of the best ways to clear the head..:norton.............
