Back to more northern climes after a fulfilling Baja ride........:wave

The majority of the two weeks was spent in the company of Chabon and his mighty, mighty WR250R.

You should know that the final photos get posted first since I believe they convey the spirit of the trip.....:lol3

We spent the final three days with Burt, Brad and Lee who made a Gunn Run for a Memorial to Mike Gorman, a fellow rider on the Barronces del Cobre' ride a year ago.

Our two week tally was reflective of our self supported, dual sport intent. It included a mix of 70/30 pavement to dirt and a couple nights camped on beaches.

    Good times was had.........:clap

It's a long, and for the most part, fugly drive from the Wasatch Front to Yuma. I took off late Thursday afternoon, crashed on the cot at the Arizona Strip that night and motored in to Yuma on Friday.

chabon met me there at Burts hacienda. Gracias again Burt for letting us park'n'ride outta your spot. We ates some chickens and dranks a few beers. The next morning found us posing to head to Mexico.

See how clean and sparkly the bikes and us appear? Now you can appreciate the "before and after" photos....

So we zip across the border at Algodones where the bank is closed but the Visa(FMM/T) office is open. Antonio processes my paperwork and tells me to pay in La Paz...he then shows me an international gesture for women...I'm too shy to post it but I grin and leave the office. One tidbit is that the bank is closed when we get to La Paz for Saturday/Sunday Carnaval celebrations....then one of those border bees stings chabon.....thought he might swell up like a balloon but he takes it on the chin, or neck, and bucks up.

We ride through the agri zones and small towns looking for a banco to get him some gasolina pesos.....

chabon finds a spot, pays somebody's electric bill then puts his card into a real ATM and voila, he's got money to burn....at 13:1 exchange rate...:clap

We push on for lunch and finally hit Mexico 5. I've always used Mex 2 and payed the toll to get to 5 and now I know why. We spent a ton of time threading through Saturday morning traffic through all the small towns heading south. Interesting sights and sounds of the border zone but not a quick and easy ride. Lunch was good. That's Mark Cuban drinking a Coke on the poster.....Tosta and drink special....:deal

No sag wagon for us, we're on our own, tools, tubes, spare parts will be hard to come by....I think chabon has some photos of the unreliable KTM needing a turn signal repaired.....those racing bikes are such a pain to keep running.....just lucky to make it across the border.....any border....

You aren't in Baja until you get further south and we finally made Pete's Camp our first night destination.

Our closest neighbors had a real tent home and the residents were great. chabon decided to try a brew and we settled in.

Okay, need to take a break on doing my taxes, and need to get this report rolling.

Scene of the first 'rider down' (still in Yuma, Thanks Burt). No photo so this probably doesnt count.

Scene of the first KTM repair (still in Yuma), only a loose wire, collateral damage from the little mishap.

Five minutes into Mexico and a bee finds the only 1/2 square inch of exposed flesh on my body and attacks at 50 mph. Pretty good aim if you ask me. Right in the jugler vein.

Notice the new Revzilla Sand gloves? My birthday present from my wife :D . They worked out good. Nice and cool. I usually wear leather, but my hands are always hot and sweaty.

First Mexico bike porn. It's actually a 2008 WR250X with lowering links, but otherwise pretty much stock.

Wow, a week to end the first day.....

The sunrise was spectacular over the Sea of Cortez.

Our neighbor, Pamela, gave us an Adventure farewell and we headed south to visit Coco.

We wheeled through San Felipe to check out the Sunday morning malecon view.

The pavement ended at the Gonzaga Pemex that day, it extends further now. A bit overcast to start the day but we never did see more than a few drops.

    Lava rock bike porn....

The only real bike drop of the trip for me was in some thigh deep sand after Gonzaga. No pics but full disclosure....:deal

I thought the road after Gonzaga to Coco's was in bad condition. There were two 18 wheelers stuck at the bottom of the wash. They had the road pretty well blocked for any larger vehicles. chabon didn't seem to mind.

Coco was in a playful mood......"What, more people who know me?"

The road out to Chapala was in better condition, there was another 18 wheeler there with another broken axle. And then we stopped in the Cordon forest to see if a big black bird needed to take a shit....I don't think chabon trusted her....

    OK, let's finish day #2

    cause everybody knows the salute......:fyyff

And we've got to get to somewhere......

Even if I skipped two Pemex stations with no Premium (rojo)......

The bikes get tethered together in the Villa gravel and we had flushing toilets and hot water.....life was good.....clean up and get ready for the morn......which would take us somewhere where the bitches aren't raped 5-6 times during the night.....dog city.......No......bahia de los angeles....and where was the Adv buddy who could meet us there? :dunno

Good thing the ride to the mission only entailed the wall behind our beds.....:evil

    Alrighty then......:1drink

    The next morning looked great

The kids were having a parade and we had seats on the veranda.
Good thing the kids had Policia to keep the unruly crowds at bay...oh ya......the Bahia de Los Ageles.....

    Elementaria....

This is the stuff of why I'm here..........:D

But then we're out of here and back to the junction where there is a group of GS riding, mainland Mexican motos. chabon looks thrilled to make their acquaintance, possible' since he has taken a detour into the cactus on a side road?

Welcome to the machine....Kenneth is Gaelic for El Guapo......:D........and that is me........

I'm being punished at work for taking vacation. Seems like I have to make up all the hours I was gone. Makes a vacation kind of pointless! So I got even with them by turning in my retirement papers! That will teach them :clap. I still have 72 working days (who's counting?). But if I take my 24 vacation days and get sick for 6 days that helps.

If you need to take some of my photos go for it. I will try to catch up a little bit tonight.

What was Ken say about skipping a couple gas stations? Glad I had the Rotopax. At least I got rid of the old California gas I had been carrying around for 6 months (did I mention that to you Ken?). Slight miscalculation on his fuel tank size.

    IMGP0474 by DDMcGinnis, on Flickr

See Ken's laser beam headlight? You could see it for miles. All I had were a bunch of high visibility stickers for joggers. You may notice them in other photos, I stuck them all over the place.

    IMGP0475 by DDMcGinnis, on Flickr

Made it to Bay of Los Angeles. Don't call this place BOLA in front of Coco, or maybe you should, just to see his reaction.

Happy dolphin tiles :eek1 We checked out all the hotels in town. Everyone seemed to be staying at an expensive one down by the water. We negotiated a deal at another spot. We were the only guests that night. Had a nice dinner there.

Is that the LA Getto wine.....?

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

Good to see that you're back on board for the RR....of course the JOB will penalize you for enjoying your vacation. That's their job and just one of the reasons that "I'm retired" from the Bullshite.....don't flunk retirement.....:lol3

OK, back for more neurosurgery next month....good thing I got this ride in.....NO, good thing somebody took me on this ride....NO, it was my idea....No, there must be two or three K's in "el guapo"......:eek1

I stole this one from chabon....cu, cu, catchoo....

After listening to the dog rape all night, the chabon horsesaw and having a great b'fast with the kids on the BOLA (forgive me Coco) malecon, it's time to get on down the road....:D

And I get to revisit one of my favorite taquerias on the peninsula....stop for a good time..... Yulissa is the daughter and a great kid......her parents have a wonderful spot in Vizcaino and they have the bestest ceviche I have had the pleasure of inbibing....give them a salute from chabon and the walrus....:clap

Time to get on down the road and check up on some acquaintances in San Ignacio....it's not just about the ride, it's about la raza.... these are folks that I've met on previous trips, it's their communities that I get to visit and it's their encouragement that attracts me to them.

This is Oscar, who is my dads age, with his son, another Antonio. Great to see you again, mi' amigo's.....:D

I'm a bit reticent to recommend the Hotel Posada and most of you would know why....a diamond in the rough....but I might not pass this way again and it would be selfish not to pass it on.....

That brings back memories, we stayed at the Villa Vita in 1995, when we towed our boat down to do some fishing. There was 2 SUV loads of Federales staying there too, they had a couple of hookers and sat around drinking all day then drove around at night looking for drugs, great RR keep it up

Okay, trying to catch up here. We'll start with this little gem. Doesnt look like much but that was my runout trail when I got sideways on a little sand road shortcut we found. Its was either head into the desert and fall on a barrel cactus. We turned back after and few hundred yards and glad we did. P.S. Celebrating my birthday today :1drink

Big whale watching lagoon outside of town. Tour groups seemed to be doing pretty good business. Reports were that there were about 300 whales in the lagoon. We plan to check out the whale watching down at Puerto San Carlos. Weather not ideal today, still some overcast, but perfect for riding.
