a friend is selling an atk 406 i think its either a 91 or 94 but its seized up. hes asking 200 is it worth fixing? are parts for those atk's hard to come by? im guessing its a bad piston/cylinder. its kinda got that different cool factor with all the wierd stuff on it. its the model with the disc brake on the engine.

The 406, when running, is an awfully fun motorcycle. Great torque for a two stroke, very linear...

You might want to ask about 406 parts availability on the ATK riders forum:

The 406 is a really nice old school torquey 2 stroke, not fast but a great trail engine.

As far as being seized,if the piston is seized, that's one thing.

If the crank/rod/piston is seized from having been run with no oil that's a whole nuther thing.

I take old 2 strokes apart pretty often, despite them being the simplest engine in the world to keep going, backyard yokels who try to ride or work on them routinely destroy them beyond saving.

    1. The classic, run with no oil in gas.

    2. Second most popular-run em till they have to be towed behind a truck to start, then blow em to bits wide open.

    3. Simple and easy seizure, jetting? is rich better or whats lean?

ATK parts are pricey. 200.00 it could be a good parts bike if nothing else.

Americandirtbke.com should have most needed parts if you decide to pick it up.

Looks like piston and rings run about $245
