Careful with those cortisone shots. Too many of those can make things worse. Unless you have great insurance or have met your deductible this time oyear sucks for needing an MRI.

That's at the in-laws house across the street. We will be staying there during the renovation. I wonder how I'm going to spend my time?

I tore one years ago from a martial arts injury. The bad news is that it will never heal. It turns into scare tissue.

I remember how painful it was.

My knee has been fried since my mx days in the mid 70s. One has been destroyed twice from then, and countless tweaks since. It hasn't had any cartilage or ACL ever since. Keep it built up and wear a brace to keep functioning

I had to be talked into the shot. Really wanted that MRI - no deductible here.

Did they have Xrays and MRIs in the 70s? Or did they just kick you in the shin so you forgot about your knee pain?

Back then they didn't worry about it unless there was a bone poking through the skin......

No MRIs. Been operated on twice. Yrs of backpacking, paintball, 2 wheels, etc haven't helped.

The other knee has had issues since its had to be the strong knee all these yrs.

Did over 6000 miles of backpacking in the mtns thru the 90s. W/o trekking poles that wouldn't have been possible btw.

Meanwhile, the bike this afternoon all ready for tomorrow's solo ride.

Fine looking YZ Jeff.... I did the blue rimz!

Did you move to an 18' rear with those?

No unfortunately that wasn't an option for that wheelset. But it frees up the oem silver wheelset, and I already have an 18" rim for it.

And thanks. That's a huge 120-90 Shinko 523 19" in the back. Mimics an 18" pretty well with its larger volume.

Front is the huge volume Golden Tire Fatty 216 100-90.

I see... Had my eye on one of those since it came out. I know you just pulled off a 505 so curious to hear what your thoughts are on the 523 after your ride today.

I used it last ride doing 21 miles and all my favorite rocky trails here. Did really well the few times it would count like steep side hilling etc. But, since it's been dry-ish and any decent knobby would've done ok too.

I had the 505 on it before, but it was the 'non cheater', Cheater. Meaning it was the same carcass but not the sticky sponge rubber. Which I think would be better for the rocks. It too did just fine tho. Big wide tire with lots of surface area.

I wanna get up your way sometime this fall / winter and ride a little... Steve had great things to say about your neck of the woods while we were in Utah.

The 523 has higher bigger wider-spaces knobs, so it should be a little better in the loose stuff or mud. I first thought the casing was the same size. But the 505 seems a little bigger (but smaller finer pitch knobs)

    .

    Sure but..

Problem in winter is it gets slick and muddy up above 4000' and kinda stays that way until Spring. That and deep slick leaves add 2 more layers of difficulty. I.e. Can't see the big rocks, plus being even more slick on the wet creek rocks.

Plus winter it's hard to plan anything. Nice days are few and you have to go that day or miss the window. One of the reasons I'm going today instead of Rockcrusher.

@JTNC110 says he knows the Hatfield McCoy trails well and wants us to come up and ride with him there...
